I picked one of the new RAMs up yesterday. The knife opened so smoothly, I thought it was assisted opening! This knife opens and closes so smoothly, it has the potential to give Benchmade's Axis Lock a run for the money. If it were Ambidextrious, it would be better than the Axis Lock already.

I'm headed to Grand Prairie knives tomorrow, and the pictures on their website show the pocketclip is reversible, what on it isn't ambidextrous?

The lock. It's on the left side scale only, unlike B/M's axis-lock (Or CS's or SOG's similar versions).

I'll be making my way to GP sometime soon, now that they have the RAMs in stock. I first have to see how much money I have left over after the knife show in St. Charles this weekend.

so the lock being on one side doesn't actually hinder the ability to be ambidextrous. im right handed and i have to actually rotate the knife in my hand to close it easily, but left handed, my middle finger sits in perfect position to release the lock and my index finger is right there to close, i think im actually faster lefty than righty on the RAM

Have to agree with Slade. I'm right handed but using my middle
finger with left hand is no problem at all. I can't see any reason
a lefty couldn't easily use the lock slide on the RAM.

I was just at GP knives this past saturday and they didn't have a RAM "dangit!!", said they were on order though, that was the one Kershaw I really wanted to get while I was there, looks like an awesome knife!

I think the original poster meant that the lock isn't on both sides. Yes, you can use the knife ambidextrously & it's a great flipper. However, the B/M's axis-lock that he was comparing it to has the lock on both sides & can be manipulated by either hand on both sides of the handle, making it truly ambidextrous.

yeah thats what i figured. but wouldn't that make the stud lock the only truly ambidextrous knife in kershaws line up?

I just left GPK, played with the Ram a little, VERY nice!

The 3 small thumb studs are different, but the flipper brings the bladed out like lightning.

The handle is also very ergonomic, and while the lock is only on one side, it shouldn't be a problem for southpaws.

That's what I meant. I do love the RAM. I think it is the fastest opening manual knife I have ever handled. Kershaw has a winner!:D

It's a nice concept, the RAM lock... but nowhere near the axis lock in ease of open/closing. That's after having both the custom and production version. IMHO
