Just wondering what some peoples opinions are on why the RAM series was disco'd, as well as why more models were not produced. I know there are many RAM lovers here (including myself) which wanted other versions of it including composite blade steels or other high end steels.

Did the RAM have low sales figures because of it's high price compared to other more popular models? Online prices for the RAM aren't bad, but I've seen this knife for sale in many knife shops for $80-90+.

Other than the price, I think that the RAM is a much improved version of the Skyline. It's very pocketable, a much faster flipper, it's stronger, sexier, and has a rock solid lock.

That bites, it's a great knife in my books. On the flip side, at least they're constantly bringing out sweet knives to replace the ones they've discontinued.

I imagine it was discontinued because it didn't sell well.

Also, IMHO it's one of the uglier designs out there. For whatever reason I seem to get more attached to my ugly knives (maybe because I'm not afraid to get them all marred up with scratches and such?), but DAMN, ricky, the RAM must have been given a second helping of the ugly stick IMHO. In other words, its very unique design may have been off-putting for a lot of folks. I myself didn't really give them a second glance until I got one in my hands and realised what I was missing.

The RAM is becoming one of my favourite Kershaws and my go-to day-to-day knife. I bought a second one as soon as I heard they were being discontinued. :(

Slow sales would be my guess. Not sold at the big box stores.

It is a great knife but once all of us knife junkies got are fill the sales fell off. Steel up grades would have been nice but still wouldn't have kept it in production.

Give it a few years and lets hope it comes back like the Random Task. I just hope it comes back as a made in the USA model. Not like the Zings move to China.:(

Gota wonder if the Blur would still be around if it weren't for WM and the Tanto Blur.

Love WM or hate them either way they do account for a huge piece Kershaws income in the US. 3800 stores in the US plus online sales and 8500 stores world wide = big $.

Salvo started as WM only model now WM stopped carrying it and production stops. The Skyline can't be far behind.

I would guess that more Crowns will be sold this holiday season than ZTs have ever made.

RAM was my first Kershaw and it's the reason I have over 20 today! Sad to see it go!

Another RAM lover here. Great ergos, amazing action. Never really saw it as ugly- have you looked at a BM Rift? -or almost any Spyderco? I guess I'll be picking up another before its too late.

I know from personal experience that once a lot of people saw the RAM they were immediately offput by its looks. I never bought one personally because there was always something else to buy and I said "next time" over and over, but once I heard it was being discontinued I got myself a blem from Kershaw Guy. I love the design personally, but from showing it to people I know its not nearly as appealing as many of Kershaw's other designs to people.

I would definitely like to see more collaborations like the RAM. If I recall correctly the ZT0500 MUDD had the HAWK lock too right?

Hmm I guess I'm just wired differently because I don't see the RAM as ugly at all. It definitely has a tactical look to it as far as blade shape goes and the handle lines. And funny someone mentioned the BM Rift because I also own that one and think it looks fantastic lol. I have a similar feeling about the RAM as some other posters have said, is that once you hold one it's an awesome feeling. It's surprisingly very ergonomic and comfortable. The lock may not be the easiest to reach, but it's such a fun and quick knife, and once you get used to it it can be very easy to operate. I'm glad I have two of them (both blems unfortunately) but I'd like to buy more of them. I even sent one to my buddy who's in the Navy, along with a BM Griptillian.

Glad that i have one of these knives , don't think it is ugly at all but i wish that it was a little larger

I think the main reason is that the hawk lock would take longer to make than a liner lock, and so takes up floor time that they don't have. it probably didn't sell well because A: it does not have nice lines. it may not be ugly, but it is not pretty. B. it is small. the first time I held it I was surprised and put off by how small it was. I wish I had bought one, but I guess I just have to add that to the list of knives I have missed.

Ive always loved the RAM- its still one of my favorite knives. its the knife that triggered my knife passion.

im not sure why they discontinued it, the above reasons seam reasonable. but i just wanted to say that it makes me very sad to see it go

The RAM was my all time favorite Kershaw design, and the knife that started my devotion to Kershaw as a brand. Speedsafe knives will just never be as much fun as that little flipper. 'Sad to see it go... =( I've been carrying and using mine from the original first 500 run ever since buying it a few years ago...
