I have a Kershaw Random Task liner lock folder with polished black G-10 scales and satin-finished S60V (CPM 440V) modified wharncliffe blade for sale. The Random Task is a Ken Onion design, and this folder incorporates Ken's Speed-Safe assisted opening mechanism in its action. The Random Task has long been discontinued, so seeing these around is now pretty rare, and it is arguably the nicest Kershaw Onion yet made.

This Random Task has been carried and used lightly, but to my knowledge, it has never been resharpened and still has its original sharp edge from Kershaw. There are some light scratches on the black clip, but otherwise, this piece is mint. The Speed-Safe action is fast, and the construction of the knife is rock solid.

***SOLD***

The specs:

Overall length: 7 5/8"
Blade thickness: 1/8" at ricasso
Blade steel: S60V (CPM 440V)
Blade finish: Satin
Edge: Plain
Handle material: Black G-10, polished
Backspacer: Black G-10
Clip: Tip down, black

For payment, I prefer USPS money orders, but I will also accept PayPal and cash (at your own risk). If you are paying by PayPal, I will cover the fees, but the payment has to be sent with a PayPal-confirmed address (including the green "confirmed" marker) listed in the invoice, and I will only ship to that PayPal-confirmed address. I will only accept a personal check if I know you, and I reserve the right to wait for it to clear before I ship.

I will consider trades for custom folders. However, I am not interested in serrated blades, production knives, or fixed blades other than a Galyean Ukiah, small (less than 5" blade) Hossoms, or Russ Andrews at this point in time.

Feel free to post, email, or PM any questions. Thanks for looking!

Hi,

Is the Speed-Safe spring removeable in these earlier models? I love the knife, but I can't risk carrying an assisted opener here in NYC.

Thanks!

Is the pocket clip reversible for tip up carry?

Hopefully cw won't mind me chiming in on this. No, it is not. I imagine that the handle can be drilled for tip up carry, but factory is tip down only.

Thanks for chiming in, WT351! WT351 is correct, the knife is only tapped for tip down carry.

knife saber, I don't know if the Speed-Safe can be removed from the knife. I've never tried taking apart a Speed-Safe knife before. Plenty of manuals, but never an auto or Speed-Safe so far. I haven't heard anything about this particular model from anyone else either.

I think on Speedsafe models that the torsion bar provides the detent to keep the blade closed as well as the force to open it. If you took the torsion bar out I don't know that there'd be much resistance to keep the blade from opening due to gravity or a flick of the wrist.

I agree, with the spring out I think it would fall open without resistance. I believe it's the cam mechanism on the tang of the blade that allows for the quick openning. I used to have a left hand one but sadly it was stolen along with most of my production collection about 2 years ago.
