I played with this last weekend when a friend brought his over. This is now my favorite assisted opener from Kershaw. Sadly it's been discontinued and I found nothing online as far as surplus. My questions are:

Is there any specific reason this knife was discontinued?

Are there plans to make it again?

Who makes a comparable AO with the same blade shape as the RT?

Personally I find the current Onions to be nice but a little pointy for my taste.

Are there any plans for a new model similar in design to the RT?

Thanks in advance.

The E-bay one is the new Random, a liner lock. The original Random is the frame lock in S30V and is only available from http://www.chesapeakeknifeandtool.com/ . They were given the exclusive right to sell the knife by Ken. They are still available from CK&T and sometimes find their way onto E-bay.

Is the Random Task the same as the Radom Leek? I picked up the Random Leek when it first came out, great little knife. They sure went up in price though, I think I paid $75.

Yes sir, you are right about that! My mistake, sorry. I thought the Random Task was coming out in S30V. Could they have added a CPM 440V blade version as listed on E-bay?

The one I'm referring to had 440v and g10 handles.

The Random Task 1510 is the first Assisted opener released, the Random leek is a leek with a Random task style blade. The Random task predates the random leek by about 2 years. Use the search function to see more.

Hi all

The Random Task and the Random Leek are two entirely different knives, that have the same blade shape.

The Random Task highlights titanium liners, 3 1/4" CPM440V (S60V) steel, polished G-10 scales, and was voted Blade Magazines 1998 "American Made Knife of the Year". It was discontinued late 1999/early 2000.

The Random Leek was an exclusive knife agreed upon by both Kershaw and Chesapeake. It is being done in S30V, and had a DLC black coating on both the handle and blade. It is a frame lock.

Hope that helps.

It was a GREAT knife, but it's time had come. :(
Just call Ken Onion and have him make you one.

Thanks all, I may go with the random leek since its newer and cheaper than the original. I saw the sites listed already and most are combo edge or left handed. Leek has a framelock and s30v so it's a little better IMO.
