Anyone know how the (new) Kershaw Ripcord functions? It looks like a manual OTF knife.

Thanks for that link, I was going to post a question about the new Kershaw Cyclone, I was curious if it is an assisted opener or not. The site has answered my question and has made me want to get one. -Mike

Wasn't there another company that made something almost exactly like that in the last few years? I remember a lot of ads in the knife magazines, and maybe even a review in Tactical Knives.
It is indeed an OTF knife. The lack of a way to open and close the knife with your hands and a dependancy on the belt deployment looks like a liability since it depends on rotating the vertically hanging knife in order to release and deploy the knife. Not something i'd like to fumble around for while trying to fend someone off.

i think the company that had the original ripcord was called phantom cutlery or phantom knives, im not one hundred percent sure about that. but i also believe that they had their knife retailing for a whole lot more.

Looks like a less expensive copy of the Phantom Ripcord I bought 4 years ago. Interesting knife, but not very practical. Here's a link to the original:

Ron, how well does your Phantom Ripcord perform? ive seen the Kershaw version, and I'm really interested in buying one, mainly because I can't find the Phantom anywhere. Would you happen to know where I can find an online review so I can decide whether or not to get one?

Anyway, to answer your question, the Phantom Ripcord performs flawlessly as far as deployment and lockup are concerned. Cuts OK but is a chisel grind (bevel on one side only). It's well made and very solid. Hope this helps.
