Pat from KAI was at the booth for the Indianapolis NRA National meetings(a must do if you live remotely close). He brought along some of the new protos from Kershaw and ZT. I talked to him for 30 mins Sunday about the knives, manufacting processes and product development . I fogot the other KAI ladys name. But she had the Ruby in pocket, cutting open boxes for the t-shirts and catalogs to hand out. He had the Emerson colabs in pocket. Also the 0102 hawk and the 180 hinderer fixed blade on hand to hold. Those things are beast of knives.

The Ruby was thin, solid, smooth, balanced, sexy, perfect EDC, add your own adjectives. I had to wipe the drool off of it before I handed it back. It may repalce my 777 black as my favorite KAI knife. I have large to extra large hands according to glove size. Here is my 0350 in hand at work as a size comparison (I'm on lunch as I type this). Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. I'll bring my dslr to Blade for better shots.

The Ruby is about the same size as the '350?

That's a big-ass EDC knife!

At least for me. I'm happy with 2.5"-3" of blade....

I was excited when they released this model its a must have for me as a Kai fan......Did they say what steel blade is made of?

Am I the only one here who has not gone completely insane? [Or maybe I'm the only one who is insane, and I don't know it ]. The reported MSRP of $500 on this knife (on another website too) is just kooky. There is a point at which we must say no to this kind of lunacy - especially for something that looks like a flea market knife - but I guess we aren't there yet. We only encourage this kind of stuff by slobbering all over it.

Oh well, I'm off to the loony bin for an evaluation. I'm going to totally freak if the psychiatrist has a Kershaw Ruby in his pocket.

Congrats to KAI for hitting their 40th anniversary.

How did she flip? I'm assuming it runs on KVT? I can't remember the specs from when it was first introduced.

Like another member said, it's pretty cool how they're actually putting this piece to work.

I think at a $500 suggested retail, Kershaw can keep that knife. I'll buy a custom if I want to spend that kind of money.

If you like it and think its worth it then be happy .
I can't really comment on any Kershaw knifes for Quality as I don't own any. but I have a couple of knives that people would call me crazy for buying. Like my Randall made astro.
So Enjoy

These are production customs. Limited numbers, special materials. The entrie knife is dlc coated then some one sands it to get the contrast on the handles and blade. Soild titanium, ZDP blade steel. Only 2 external srcews. Bearings in the pivot. $500 is the msrp not what it will sell for. Closer to less than $400. Try and touch a custom from a known maker that has 40 years in the knife world in soild Ti & zdp, and a warranty for under $500.

She flips like the 888, smooth and speedy, lock engages solid you can feel lock.

I have to agree with Powernooodle and many others on this forum. It is too bad Kershaw ruined what could have been an awesome blade. I really like Kershaw knives but it does look like a "gas station" knife. ;) I am sure the ergos are nice but the tire looking black and then so much writing on the front. Sheesh, I will pass unless it is for $150.

I know it's a little "blingy-er" than most folks are used to, but it's an anniversary piece. All I'm saying is I can see why they went all out.

Not everyone will like this knife. No worries.

More for those who do :)

Do not want. They go on sale on the Kershaw site tonight at 9pm EST. Good luck to all who go for it.

I still dont uderstand the bling or over the top look comments, but whatever. Plan on getting it tonight. How many of you wear Fox brand clothing(I dont).

Think I'm gonna try and go for it. I understand why ppl think it's over the top. But there are things I love about this knife too!

Wow, sold in two minutes. There were 200 available. I briefly thought about it, but eh, buying to flip isn't my thing.

Website crashed multiple times for me. This system is going to suck if they can't make sure their site can handle the traffic.
