Kershaw Scallion Alternative

Hi.

I really like the blade size and shape, as well as the opening assist on the Scallion. Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about the steel. It dulls pretty quickly. I know that it also sharpens easily, but my emphasis is on "dulls quickly".

Does anyone have a suggestion for another knife, from any manufacturer, that looks and functions like the Scallion, but uses a higher grade steel (VG10, S30V, D2, M2, etc.). I'm specifically looking for the same blade length and shape, as well as the really fast, forefinger activated speed opening bump (not a stud).

Thanks for your help......................Frank

Have you considered the Mini-Cyclone in ZDP-189 & titanium? It is a great knife!

The ZDP-189 Mini Cyclone truly is a fine knife, but not really interchangable with the Scallion, in my view.

Blade is 2.25" vs 3.19", closed length is 4.25" vx 3.50", and weight is 5.3oz vs 2.3oz.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Camillus Sizzle uses AUS 8 - but the edge is better than other AUS8 blades I have seen. That is an alternative

I replaced my dull Scallion with a slightly larger lockback blade of S30V - a Spyderco Native in S30V from Wally World for <$40 + s/t. That was early last summer - then I found the Spydie 'Sharpmaker, and my Blurs and Scallion are easily resharpened. The 'Native' is also a keeper! Kershaw also changed their knife steel from 440A to 12D89, or something like that, effective Aug '07.

I own a Native in S30V, and it's a great knife.

The Kershaw site shows that the Scallion's blade is still 420HC. Is that not true?

The Camillus Sizzle is a knife that I had not considered. I will check into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Scallion and Chive use 420HC. The Leek uses 13C26 which is a Sandvic razorblade steel. I have heard good things about it. Think of it as an upgrade to 12C27 which is used in Mora's and is similar to the steel used in SAK's.
