Kershaw Scallion or Fallkniven U2?

Yeah, I know, two vastly different knives :)

Lookin' for something in 2" to 2-1/2" blade that will sit comfortably in my pocket. I like the asthetics of the blade shape of the Scallion, but the U2 has a more robust, more easily-sharpened blade shape. 420 I know isn't highly regarded, tho Kershaw does it about as well as anybody, but I know nothing about the characteristics of the U2's blade material. (FWIW: I really like VG10 for its edge retention and ease of sharpening.) The AO on the Scallion is "trick" (I've handled a Chive), and one-handed opening is a real plus, but sometimes they do open on people in their pockets (if you have to turn on the "safety," what's the point?) and there's much to be said for plain old nail nicks. (Not the least of which is they're very non-threatening to observers.)

So... Thoughts?

The Fallkniven U2 IS an EXCELLENT knife!! I can not say enough good things about the U2! Do get it!!

I like the Scallion. The 420HC is not bad stuff. My Scallions have always served me well.

However, if you do not need the AO, do not mind two handed opening or the price difference I would go with the Fallkniven U2. The steel they use should stay sharp considerably longer. I don't know how difficult it is to sharpen. I am sure someone here could tell you the easiest way to go about it.

If I could afford the larger Fallkniven products I would surely have some!!

Get both! :p

Can't comment on the Kershaw, but I have a U2 and love it. It's my EDC and I highly recommend it. I've carried plenty of other folders over the years, but find the U2 perfect for daily carry.

Thanks for your comments, everybody. Nearly pulled the trigger on the U2. But I really wanted something a bit smaller. So then I found myself taking another look at the Kershaw chive. But then I thought "Well, maybe that's too small." So veered back to the U2. Then this Got my Boker Trance yesterday... showed up. So I bought myself the Boker Trance :D

Glad you got your knife.

Now, however, it will only be a matter of time until the U-2 calls again.

Just wait and see.
;)

Damn! That Boker Trance ...IS... a nice lil thang!

Stop it! STOP IT NOW, LAVAN !!!!!

You need NO MORE KNIVES!!!

:foot: :foot:

It never stops. The knives keep calling my name.

My Brain: "I think we need a 12 step program for buying knives."
Me: "but it's not a problem! They are my friends ... leave me alone!"

whoa.... I have issues.

ok... back to thread. I like both. But I've heard a lot of nice
things about the U2. So if it was my choice I'd go with that.
Oh.... and I ordered a Trance today.

I can only speak for the Scallion. It is a great small knive. The AO works forever. My wife yells at me to stop playing with myself (Scallionbation). Its only weak point would be in the area of edge retention. If you are going to be cutting a lot of carboard the U2 would serve you better.

I have always thought the Trance seemed like a pretty cool little knife.

I know for a fact though that the U2 is awsome.

EDCeeker, you should still get the U2. You know how people (like me) make such a fuss over ZDP-189? The steel used on the U2, SGPS, has been known to hold an edge almost as well. That knife is an amazing piece of technology and you owe it to yourself to buy one.
Same goes for everyone else.:D

Perhaps some day I will. I've got an A1 and it's a helluva knife, so I'm already a Fallkniven fan. But my budget is severely constrained, so I have to choose carefully. In this case, the Trance's one-handed opening capability and slightly smaller size won out over the U2's superior features in other respects.
