Last summer I picked up the Kershaw Scallion for roughly $35. I was pleasantly surprised with this knife, especially with the assisted opening. I was just wondering if the CRKT CR-6762 was worth the price as well. I ran across one for $29. How does the assisted opening work? Is it like the Kershaw system? What about blade sharpness (I would have liked the Kershaw to be a little sharper out of the box)?

My only real complaint with the Kershaw is that it's a little small. I'd like to have a knife that I could also use as a defense tool when closed, and this knife is just too small for that. I noticed the CRKT wasn't much larger. Still, the price is very intriguing to me. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I think the Point Guard is a fine knife. However, it does not feature an assisted-opinging mechanism, so you may be disappointed if that's a main selling point for you. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to do and is quite dependable. Out of the box, both of mine easily shaved hair, and the blade steel, while certainly not "high-end" is rust resistant, tough, and easy to sharpen. The liner-lock locks up well and there is no discernible blade play. The fit and finish is also quite good, with only a few minor blemishes. I'm very pleased with mine, and it also comes with the benefit of CRKT's outstanding customer service department and lifetime warranty. If you aren't above buying and using a knife without a fancy blade steel, I'd certainly suggest giving it a try.
