I have the opportunity to buy a Kershaw Shallot but am trying to get my head around the size compared to knives I am familiar with. If anyone can post pics of a Shallot alongside any of the following I would greatly appreciate it:

ZT 550
ZT 350
Kershaw Blur
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Para2

Thanks

The Shallot compares most closely to the Delica/Endura style. It isn't a bulky knife. I think it's elegant. It is one of my all-time favorite knives.

Here is an old pic of mine next to a 350. Im sure someone will come along with better pics for you.

I agree, but it may be closer to the Endura. If it is not already it will become a classic Kershaw knife, loved for it's excellent design, ergos, and overall uniqueness. Also one of my favorite Kershaw knives ever.

Here ya go... All pics have the knives in the same order. Left to right: PM2, 0550, Blur, Shallot, 0350, Delica

Open (all knives aligned at tip):

Its a nice knife.

id prefer it over the ZT too, however I will never buy a recurve blade.

The Shallot is a great design. It gives you a good length of blade and still rides pretty unobtrusively in pocket. If you have a Blur, that is very close in size to the Shallot. Same blade length, and same overall length. The Shallot is just a small fraction of an inch longer when closed due to the handle shape at the pivot end.

Thickness-wise, the Shallot is the thinnest of that lot. Eyeballing it against a 1/32nd ruler (I don't have calipers), it looks to be 11/32 (0.34") thick. Delica looks around 12/32 (0.38"), and Blur & PM2 are about 14/32 (0.44"). 0350 and 0550 are about 16/32 (0.5") and 18/32 (0.56") respectively.

The thin and narrow body of the Shallot are really nice. The Delica and Endura are also fairly thin, but due to the thumb hole, they are a bit wider. I'd say a closer comparison would be something like a Benchmade 940, which is also pretty thin and narrow, yet sports a fairly long blade.

Thanks everyone, especially flarp for the great photos. I think I'm going to have to give this one a shake and see how it goes.

Im considering the shallot or the 0200 for my first recurve, both onion design, nuff said, id get the shallot if i were you, it melts into the hand

...i like all the onions, except the shallot...too pointy LOL...and it's the zdp version too
