So I'm going to get a shallot should I get a DLC sandvic 13c26 blade or a CPM s110v?
How is the heat treatment on both of these, and is the s110v worth the extra $?
and how do you guys like the DLC coating for those of you that have it?

-thanks

IMO, the S110V version is the one to get. CPM S110V is one of the most wear resistant steel types ever made (it's essentially upgraded S90V), and this is the only production knife ever to use it.
Make sure to pick up a diamond rod with your order.

Excellent advice, all the way down to the diamond sharpening.

I personally wasn't satisfied with the grind on mine as I found it too blunt. It came sharp enough to slice paper easily, but it was hard to sharpen. I eased back the edge a bit to reprofile to get the edge to be around 25 degrees, and it slices very well. It holds and edge too, and has never rusted in my sweaty pockets.

No doubt, I would get the 110V.

One was tested, and in discussion with Thomas on the old Kershaw sub, the guy had tested the blade in the wrong area. Thomas said they ran it at 60-62, and one he pulled off the line and tested it. It came in at 61. They guy had his retested (at the thickest point near the pivot) and came back with 61 also.

Like JJ said, the only production knife to use 110V, and a limited run at that. And ditto on the diamond rods.

As for which one to get, get both if you can. I bought a few of them and took the 110V blade, polished it up, and swapped it with the black CKT framelock. Looks great, and its one of my favorite carry knifes.

I'm also looking at a 110V Shallot. In fact, the auction end's in 3 hours .
Lets see if Crom smiles at me today ;).

Hmmmmm...10 minutes to go, 40 minutes ago. And no post. Someone sniped him. :grumpy:

And it wasn't me.

Whoa, I was so excited that I forgot to come back here.
Four seconds to the end of the auction I made my bid and sniped a brand new CPM S110V Shallot with a plain edge :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

I liked mine.

I liked mine better after taking to the paper wheels and reprofiling them a bit and putting a nice shinny edge on it.

thanks I think I'll get the s110v
how hard is it does anybody know?

My S110V was 58HRC, I know about 3 other test results, 2 were 58HRC, 1 was 59HRC.

To really get the max out to that knife, I did have mine rehardened by Phil Wilson, to 64HRC. and reground by Tom Krein. Ideally I should've done the other way, regrind and then reharden, that steel at 64HRCis no joy to grind.

Details about all that:

0.0 Is there a fixed blade version of this knife? That blade is just like the knife in Counter strike Source.

i got one, only because i had the rest of the "onions"...not a favorite to use, as i never did care for the toothpick/pig sticker style of knives...but still, a very nice composite blade to have available...

Congrats on the knife! I've got one also, and your gonna need the diamond hone! Wonderful steel and I really like it better than the zdp steel but I must admit, for some reason the s90v still has my heart. Love that stuff, just can't get enough of it. Enjoy your new toy it will serve you well.

I payed on it $110 shipped, which is a GREAT price considering I found it locally. Normally, if I bought a blade at an online store here, I would pay about 3-4x as much as what I would pay if I got the same piece from the US, so it was basically a killer deal.

I am not going to re-heat treat mine, so would I be better off geting the regular sandvick?

I just won a S110V Shallot on the bay. $38 +$5 for shipping!:D It is new in the box. Did I do good? Gave almost $70 for one in 2009. I can't believe I didn't get sniped. There was also a ckct random Leek that went for $45 from the same seller.
