Hi all,

my name is Jonathan, i m from Spain, and my english is very very bad, sorry.

The doubt that I have is on the steel SG2 of this knive, that for what .. it is a steel powder Japanese, relatively modern , of a great hardness (64 rockwell) and an excellent retention of edge. Apart it takes two caps of stainless steel SUS410, which award mas hardness, flexibility and resistance to the corrosion.
Well, the razor at that I have looked in some sites, the steel comment that it is a VG10, in others a SG2. And I am almost 100 % sure that two versions do not exist, in fact in the same web of the brand it puts the following thing.

Since my Englishman is of laugh, I have not just found out. Probably it is a VG10 improved or mas modern, not. That you think?.

But nonetheless I do not have clearly if the knive at that I have looked, has two versions (SG2 + SUS410 or VG10) or it is that I do not find out. Since in a side it puts a thing and in other one, other one.

The this knive made by the brand of Japanese knives Shun and distributed by Kershaw?. Or is it Kershaw's sub-brand?. That mess!.

Edit: Sorry, Sorry, i dont see the sub-forum of Kershaw. Please, if moderator can erase this topic..

A greeting

Hi Jonathan. Your English is better than my Spanish.

The Kershaw factory site says the steel is SG2 Powdered Steel clad with 2 layers of SUS410 stainless. There is no VG-10 version of the folding steak knife that I can find.

Regular Shun knives do have a VG-10 core, and they are very good knives - I have 4 and love to cook with them.

Shun is a part of the Kershaw company, as far as I know, not a different company.

Looks like some Shuns ae now being made wuth SG2 which is some sort of powdered metal product like the Crucible Metal products like CPM S30V. I don't know it's characteristics though.

Kai is a Japanese company.
Kai owns Kershaw.
Kai also owns the Shun Brand.
I believe that the Shun Brand is distributed by Kershaw.
I believe the Shun knives are made in Japan.

I see your problem. The specification says:
Steel: SG2 Powdered Steel cutting core clad with 2 layers of SUS410 stainless

But under features, it says
VG10 "Super steel"

These are two separate alloys.
I think the "VG10" in the feature section is an error.

I am sorry that I cannot write this in Spanish. I hope what I have written is helpful
