So is the damascus version of the skyline discontinued or a limited production? I was dumb and paid a bunch of money for one about a month ago and now the Internet is flooded with them for alot less than I paid.

It was never meant to be a normal production knife to my knowledge so when it was done it was done. Than I think they just did a second run of it is my guess as I doubt they had a large stockpile of these sitting around.

They come in different boxes too... the one I bought was the regular all red box and now im seeing black and red boxes...

I think someone in the factory just happened across a stock of Damascus they forgot they had.

Mr. Gadgets, you never know, but I bet that if you hold on to that Damascus Skyline its fair market value will rebound. These things go up and down as in concert with supply. I bought one several years ago, and it was pretty exclusive and probably "worth" $100+. Then when Kershaw made the latest batch, I bought 3 more. The value of the first one dropped to probably $55, but a year from now I bet it will be back up to $100. One never knows. Its probably a good idea just to enjoy, carry and fondle the knives you love, and to heck with the fair market value. But I bet that that value of these will rebound sharply as the supply dries up.

I wouldn't worry about it - first, you weren't dumb because it came as a surprise to everyone. Secondly, the value will go back up over time. Thirdly, depreciation or changes in value are of no concern if you plan on using it.

I bought three for three reasons:
- Possible resale later
- Possible giting
- Possible keeping and usage.

All three were FAR better flippers than the Skylines I have purchased previously, with dead centering and perfect lockup. I am very impressed. Even at $100 or whatever you paid (within reason), you still have a damned fine knife.

The damascus projects have been explained here numerous times.

They are an exclusive for one distributor. The distributor is responsible for the damascus. They have asked us to process the damascus into some existing designs. We produce them when the schedule allows. There are small numbers of each produced. It's an ongoing project(s). Probably see one run a year on a multitude of patterns.

Hope this helps with understanding.

Yep, kinda like the way the stock market works. Which is why people people are told over and over again that knives are bad investments, unless you really sit down and study every angle of it, or open a retail store. I recently bought 2 of these Skyline DAM versions, already had one, paid like $50 for it 4 years back or so. Great knife man, use it!

Yeah I noticed that too with my knife even though it's my first skyline I didn't expect it to be perfectly centered, good lockup, opens smoothly, etc I was expecting to have to take it apart and fine tune it a bit. But I didn't, at the $50 I paid I don't think I can get a better knife. Even at the higher markup price there is no denying it's a good knife, as long as you didn't pay too much.

I jumped at the opportunity to purchase one because I've been wanting a skyline for a while and I figured if I didn't like it I could easily trade it. Sure enough it was a little too small for me and I listed it on the exchange to trade and not a single offer. I was even willing to add cash and open to any kind of offer and nothing. So its a shelf piece for now.

It's a good knife.... lock up was solid, perfect centering, looks cool, great flipper... Just too small for me and I know I won't use it. And I hate having a knife that collects dust.

I purchased one for $100 on ebay about 2 months ago, just before the new shipment dropped. It's the way it goes, man. I'm just happy I have one, actually thinking about picking up another to keep as a backup.

I think im eventually just gonna give it away... its nice and everything but im definitely over my kershaw obsession. Maybe a future forum give away....
