Kershaw Skyline blade play

Last night I discovered that the Skyline I bought last weekend has a little side-to-side blade play. Not really a big deal, but when I googled it, I couldn't find any instances of this from other people who had one. I tried tightening up the pivot screw, but when I do so enough to remove the play, then I lose the ability to flip it open and the blade is not centered very well.

Is this common and is there anything I can do to eliminate the blade play?

There is a very delicate balance between blade play and flip-ability on the Skyline. You just have to reach that magic little spot, and locktite the pivot screw at that point. Thats about the only solution.

The phrase "a little blade play" can literally vary from .000001 to .01? Most often the ones that worry the most about it are the people that are brand new to the hobby and have read tall tales. Is the blade ok? Hard to say without seeing it in action or being able to measure it. My guess is that your knife is probably fine, and you are over thinking it.

A true statement. But I challenge you to physically determine 0.000001" blade play. :D

I like to err, if at all, on the side of a little too much side to side play, which favors easy flip-ability. Some guys get all bent out of shape with the slightest blade play, and thats cool, but I don't really notice slight play unless I am looking for it. Getting it too tight, though, means that the knife is hard to flick open, and thats something that I don't dig.

Well, you got me there. I am brand new to the hobby and the reason I noticed it is because so many other people seem to talk about it like it's a sign of Armageddon or something.

Maybe I just need to ignore what other people say and not worry about it.

BTW, I took it apart last night and reassembled it, and now the play is gone. Guess I did something right.

Congrats! Happy to hear to you fixed it.

Mine is solid with clip mounted for tip down but has horrible play/flex when clip is moved for tip up. It sits in a drawer indefinitely
