Kershaw Skyline question...

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I have a question. Just got my first black G-10 handle Kershaw Skyline (standard bead blasted blade) from Amazon yesterday (new, in box) and the first thing I noticed is that it has a black pocket clip with the logo upside down when the knife is folded shut with the blade on the bottom. Every unaltered Skyline I have ever seen whether in real life or on the internet has a silver pocket clip with the logo right-side up when the knife is placed in this orientation. Is this normal? Just want to make sure my new knife is the genuine article or hasn't been tampered with. Did they switch up the pocket clip on the Skyline when they revamped their logo last year? Thanks guys/gals!

Never thought about it, bit my 2 premiums are silver and right side up... Makes ya wonder?

Your "h" and "w" are different too?

Yeah, my understanding is that Kershaw finally changed their logo in 2014 after having the same one for 40 years. To be honest, I've never even seen a Skyline with the new logo on the pocket clip besides mine either. Silver, black, or otherwise.

This is the first one I've seen like this, but it looks legit to me. They're probably trying to make the brand stand out more by painting the clip.

Yeah, that had occurred to me. Just had a moment though when I took it out of the box. I was like, "Huh... That's different."

Call kai and ask them directly, and have the name of the amazon vendor that it was sold through if it wasn't directly from amazon themselves, kai's customer service is great and very helpful, pleasant people to deal with every time I've had an inquiry.

That's not a bad idea!

I wouldnt worry about it. Its a minor change and I think it looks cool. I highly doubt its a fake.

Not to mention, I doubt a Skyline comes with the kind of markup that would make faking "worth it." CKR, ZT, Striders, and other mid techs can be made cheap and sold at a high markup to an unwitting public, but an "entry" brand like Kershaw (in most cases) wouldn't make business sense. This is why you don't hear about a thriving Timex counterfeiting market. :D

While I do agree with you, never underestimate the Chinese and their passion for making fake versions of just about everything and anything whether they're expensive products or not. They even make fake eggs... EGGS... Made of starch and resin and various chemicals. All so they can sell them for 6 cents cheaper than the real thing. :nonchalance:
But yeah, If you're gonna make fake knives, I do believe you might as well aim higher on the knife totem pole. Not that there's anything wrong with the Skyline. I will probably make this knife my every day carry for quite some time.

When you consider a typical comparable Chinese made knife can easily sell for $10 all day long, and obviously somebody is still making a profit at that rate, if you make it look like a skyline, and sell it for $40 as a basic skyline, somebody just quadrupled their profit and then some,
($10 = cost and profit, $30 more is all profit).

If you're looking for a hustle, that's a perfect hustle, since people don't think anybody would hustle something like that, plus the market is less observant in general at that stage. meanwhile true connoisseurs in the high end market have a keener eye for details, so at the high end you may sell a few and make a great profit before someone notices, meanwhile at the entry level market you may make less profit per sale. But might get away with it for years before anybody notices. Im not bragging but my childhood is a bit sketchy and marred with questionable choices and circumstances,; Hustling 101 risk vs. Reward.

If there is any doubt, Whatsoever, like I mentioned earlier I would just give KAI a call, just for piece of mind.

I'm not saying it is, I honestly don't know, and you would better then me for sure kershawguy, but if it would give the op a better piece of of mind, I'm just saying, it doesn't hurt to call kai and hear it from them. They are very pleasant people to deal with in my experience.

I got my Skyline (similar kind as OP) from Lamnia, it has clip like that too.
I was first wondering...

It's a bit stiff to open, or maybe my technique just sucks (it's my first flipper).
Otherwise, I can't complain anything about it.

Fit an finish, blade centering, everything in order. Great knife.

I take Kershawguy's word that it's genuine, and I like it! :)

Definitely different, but probably just new.

Not to go all off-topic, but even the Columbia River RSK Mk5--a $20 knife--has been counterfeited. I saw it a couple of years back on one of those slowboat-from-China sites and I confirmed it with CRKT at the time.
