Kershaw Skyline question

I'm looking to get a Kershaw Skyline at Wally World. My WW has boxed Skylines in Sandvik 13c26 and all are date before 1-09. My question is are the newer Skylines (post 1-09) made of Sandvik 14C28N? Should I wait for my WW to get the newer 14C28N blades?

I really miss the Kershaw forum!

Yes, and 13C26 is fine steel if you have never or don't have any rusting issues. (live in a wet/humid enviroment etc...) if so, the 14C28N will have about the same edge holding performance with added corrosion resistance and should run about 1 point harder on Rockwell scale..

I have 13C26 and it's all I need for a EDC steel.

fine blade the skyline,,been edcing mine for over 2 months now....pretty nice

The ones I saw at walmart were clam packed and they said 14c28n. I can tell the diff. if it gets rust spots in my pocket it is 13c26. The only way I have kept 13c26 from rust spoting is to sand it down to 1500 grit. On the other hand 14c28n with bead blasting hasn't rusted at all, carried for over 1 month.

The Skyline is a great EDC knife and my Walmart has them clam packed and marked 14c28n. So who knows here in kansas I really can't tell the difference but I am sure in a more humid enviroment the 14C28n would be more of an advantage.

I got an email from kershaw saying knives after feb. 09 have been changed to 14.. full switch should be by march. I got a 1-09 too. one month later and i could have had a new one :(

Kershaw could have just stuck with 13C26!:( My Zing, which was one of the models to debut 14C28N, has rust spots all over the blade after being carried in my pocket for only two days. After the poor corrosion resistance displayed by my JYDs and Skyline, which have the corrosion attracting bead-blast finish, by just carrying them in my pocket for a few days, I was really looking forward to the claims of 14C28N's enhanced corrosion resistance over 13C26, but alas, I am left unimpressed!:thumbdn:

I have ATS-34 and AUS-8 blades with coarser bead-blast finishes that don't develop rust spots like my bead-blasted Kershaw 13C26 (and now my 14C28N) blades have. We're not talking carbon steels here, we're talking stainless!

Disappointed,

I wish Kershaw had gone with 12C27 myself. I think they would have avoided this corrosion stuff altogether had they done so. (Not that I've encountered any with my Sandvik Kershaws.)

You're just lucky I guess. I can't get any of my bead-blast finished, 13C26-bladed knives to stay rust-free, and I'm talking about just carrying them, not using them!

Unless Kershaw mislabeled the clam packed Skylines, they're 14C28N. I picked up my Skyline in a clam pack from WW & it has Jan 09 on the blade & states "14C28N" on the package.

I had a Zing (Which I believe always came with 14C28N) & didn't problems with it. I've had a few with 13C26 (2 Grooves & a RAM that I used for awhile) & didn't have any problems with those, either.

So, the rusting issues aside (I live in S. Cal, so humidity's not that bad), is the edge holding ability on the newer Sandvik as good as the older ones?
