Kershaw (Snap-On) "Chubby" Dilemma

Ok - so here's the story: As documented by me in this forum - I like the Snap-on versions of some of the Kershaw knives, mainly the "Needs Work" but secondly the Kershaw Chubby:

So for several months, I am trying to win this one or the occasional camo one that you see on the bay ever so often, but to no avail. A few weeks ago I win the one in the pic, seller says its new, cept its a display model and that its perfect. So I bid on it and I won! I anxiously await the coming of my knife, and as you see in the pic, the knife is supposed to have the wrench as a clip on the back. However, when I get my knife, it looks like this:

Now...I complain about it to the seller, and he does make good and contacts Kershaw and they quickly send out a clip to me right away. However, the clip doesn't stay on the knife. It appears to be secure at first, but after you open the knife just a couple of times, the clip falls off. Now yes, I could just keep it without the clip, but that is the whole novelty of the knife, that wrench clip.

So my question is - if I send this back to Kershaw, is there anything they can do? Please advise.

After you put it on it loosens up after a few openings?

Did you use loctite when you put on the new one?

As for your knife that you have now , i suspect Kershaw would take care of you on it, but I don't see it as their problem, it should be the sellers problem and I personally would ask to send it back for a refund and leave Kershaw out of it. As for the rest of your dilema emal me steelhead15 at juno dot com , you will be glad you did.

Is the threads of the screws stripped or the holes they go in stripped? If so I feel for you, I have had the same problem with a $350 dollar paintball marker.

I concur with Dave. This really isn't Kershaw's problem. I'd ask for a refund from the seller, and email Dave like he suggested (even tho I have no idea what he will say, but I know when Dave says "email me" it's always good! ;))

Don't let that seller off the hook. The goods were not accurately described, and should be taken back. The clip was broken. Seller could have fixed it or described it accurately so you would have paid less for it. Don't feed the snakes.

If the newly installed clip falls off, something isn't right and you should not be having to worry about it or dealing with it. Back it goes. Use feedback to make sure others know about this nonsense as well, after the dust settles and you receive your money back.

thanks for the link...I remember looking for it on snap-on's site a few times and not finding it. But something tells me at that price shown, I might have tried to win one to save some $$...which this one is much cheaper..but I guess you get what you pay for. Plus I *really* wanted the camo but I was slightly settling for the red. According to Thomas new translucent ones are coming out in '09, looking forward to those.

The Snap-On site is really hard to navigate, but I somehow stumbled on the right link and bookmarked it a while ago.

I am taking yours and others advice and see about having this knife returned to the user, even though he states "No Returns" on the website, here is my open email to him:

Hi ****,

I know you tried to make good on this, and I know you state “no returns”, but this knife has been a problem since its purchase to no fault of yours or myself. I would like to see about having this knife and the new clip that was sent me sent back to you for a full refund, including reimbursing for the shipping. I will still give you a positive feedback, if I haven’t done so already.

I hope you can appreciate my position – I await your reply :-)

Regards,

Lets see how it goes.

I think you were too nice on him. It is his fault that the knife was not as he described. Anything short of an offer of a refund (I'd eat the return charges just to be done with it) and I would start a paypal dispute (assuming you used pp!). Make sure all your emails go thru the bay's system. They can track them if necessary.

Does this guy sell a lot of knives on the bay? You might want to search GB&U to see if anyone else has had a run in with him.
