I just received this Kershaw Atmos today & for the price, it's a hoot. Fires out super quick. It's light. Attractive design. Nick Shabazz approved! Heh? Heh? Sharp right out the gate, &...& well...it's boring...for me. I can't leave well enough alone. I like tinkering. It's the artist in me. The creative juices flow, ideas bobble around in my head like a cork on the lake & things start to take shape. (Style choices & tastes may vary.)

Scales:
Had enough of the tactical tan/dessert earth which is the same military colors since the Gulf war back in the 90's?

Do you yearn for those bright neon colors, Coca-cola shirts, Swatches, Z. Cavaricci's & Saved By the Bell from the 80's? Behold...

One full hour in neon yellow Rit-dye. Amazing stuff. I think I'll tight roll my jeans now, slide on my Girbaud jacket & relax in a pair of British Knights.

To be continued...

Ok, so the sharpening choil on this thing is redonkulous! So, I did what I did on my Crux...made it bigger! I didn't want a finger choil like the Crux. I finagled it so it's just big enough to sharpen the blade properly. Maybe too big? Eh. I also didn't want to re-etch the blade so...a Q-tip & a little dab will do ya of etching solution. Ahhhh. The pocket clip has a funky up-bend at the end so I rectified that. I then tumbled the pocket clip & is now resting in my etching solution. More photos on the way. Stay tuned!

did you fully wash those scales after the rit dye? I'm honestly surprised it took so much color - I would have expected it to be a bit more subtle

thanks for sharing this mod... I've wanted an atmos but was waiting until they offered a 14c28n version or something

You are very welcome! Fully washed before & after. I had these in the boiling dye for an hour. Alot longer than anyone I've seen do. Looking closer, you can see in the grain where the color isn't as bright (didn't soak it up as good) & the tan shows through. Gives it that dirty filthy appearance. Better than expected.

I really like it! I have a blue atmos, don't want to mess with it, but if I did I'd get yellow dye and see if I could get green out of it.

Really hope Kershaw does an atmos xl version. I'd love a slightly larger handle!

Nice work Dog! The color really pops and makes it look like a WE design. You made it Yours inside and out :thumbsup:

Thanks! I haven't stopped flippin this thing since I put her back together. Now I've got "flippers finger". On BOTH fingers!:thumbsdown::thumbsup::thumbsdown::)

Nice work! I opened mine up and spent 5-10 minutes but couldn't make a mark with my files for a detent ramp.
Curious what you used? next up i have a dremel or a grinding wheel to try.

I used the corner of an old Lansky aluma oxide stone on this one. I did use a diamond rotary bit for the last blade & it was much easier.

It's my first knife project, I made a ramp but i think maybe its still a bit steep. Smoother for sure but i think it could be better still.
Also finished removing the branding.
Just curious how many times it took before you got it the way you wanted?
About to be my 3rd ;)

It took me just one try at it, but I wasn't going super smooveness.:thumbsup:
I was after two things:
  1. Less finger pressure to overcome detent ball.
  2. No blade slapping down when overcoming detent ball.
The way you're tackling it, you'll achieve a closer smoovness than I regardless of how many times it takes you. Ya looking good so far!

I do like to fiddle with things that don't really need it :)
Opened it up and put back together about 10 times now. Only have to take out 4 screws and takes less than a minute to get the blade out and back in.
Reminds me of doing trigger work on my revolvers.
I should probably stop with this now, very easy to unlock and fold over now. can even give it a little wrist and have the detent ball glide over the ramp.... but still could be smoother
