Kershaw Spec Bump Question

I was playing with my spec bump last night and I found what I thought was a loose screw in the handle. It is a stainless torx screw near the top of the clip, (not in the clip but in the scale). It seems to have a washer and is fitted in a slot. Is this a friction device or what does it actually do?
