Kershaw Spec Bump Review...

This is my first review. Just yesterday I recieved a Kershaw Spec bump in the mail. The first thing I noticed was it's weight. The machined G10 handle is just the right texture not too abrasive like the Manix's scales. The fit and finish is very good about on par with Benchmade. The handle is heavily curved and when the blade is deployed, the finger trigger for opening the blade forms a substantial guard. The handle is one of the most comfortable I have ever handled. The blade has a serrated thumb ramp on the spine. And the assisted opening action is very good. The blade has a thumbstud lock, like some of kershaws more recent knives. Also I noticed that the lock is both the blade stop and the lock. It passes the spine whack test. At first it was a very rough action. I put a couple of drops of CLP on it, and opened and closed it about 50 times. Now the action is extremely smooth and rivals that of Benchmades Axis type knives. On the right side the knife has a slide safety that is MUCH easier to operate than their other knives with the safety towards the back of the knife. When the safety is deployed the knife does not budge at all and feels very secure. The knife has zero blade play. And the knife is perfectly centered when closed. The blade has a tungsten DLC coat that seems very abrasion resistant, compared to my other coated knives which are Teflon :barf: . The knife came with a micro serrated edge that came shaving sharp. The 154 CM recurved blade cuts with authority. I have not had it long enough to comment on edge holding. I highly reccomend this knife to any one that is looking for a high end knife. It has become my favorite knife, BTW if you want one you should be quick about it because they are only making 500 of them :) . Here are some pics.

Looks like a killer knife. I've heard nothing but good things abotu the Bump, but the weird colors kinda turned me off. Now I just have to wait until they sell off that first 500, so i can get on without that fugly "First Produuction Run" etch!!

Any idea if they'll offer this without the black blade coating? I tend to prefer uncoated blades.

Thanks for the Review friend.

I really like the look of the Bump.

And congrats on getting 1 of 500, nice.

I don't know if they will make a uncoated version. But for me coating are a must, beacause I work in a extreme humidity work place. Close to 100%. I am rather lucky getting the first one :) .

Most likely, all of them say that. If it was an actual serial number, it'd more likely say #1 of 500, or 001/500.

I really like my green Bump. I really like how it feels in my hand. The Spec. Bump looks equally as awesome. BUT, I do not like the first production run on the blade either.

My bet is the first production run will sell fairly quick. Give it a month or so and you might be seeing the plain black blade for sale. You can always just strip the black off the blade with a quick hit of sand paper or belt grinder. The only challenge would be working aorund the lock if it isn't easily removable form the blade.

I think NGK has some plain ones too. I was looking at them the other day for a female friend of mine who works in a bad neighborhood and often works late at night. Glad to see they're a decent knife.
