Hi,

I am new to BF, but not to knives. Like many others here, i am a huge fan of kershaw. In one of my previous jobs i worked stock and opening boxes was a giant part of it. i know about the horrors of cardboard on edges, but i had an interesting experience that i wanted to share about the handles and an unfortunate meeting with a box. I had been in the market for a larger bladed kershaw and i loved the studlock on my Mini Mojo and Offset, but i wanted a workhorse, so i decided to go with the Speed Bump. Like all my kershaws, it was delightfully sharp out of the box. after only about 3 days on the job, showing off by push-cutting cardboard i was squeezing past a large thick box that snagged my pocket clip and tore it straight off the knife, bringing with it, a large portion of the Akulon handle. as this was my first experience with Akulon, i wrote kershaw to find out my options (as this was the first warranty defect i needed hunted down). they were more than nice about taking the knife back, however, UPS lost the damn thing so who knows. i was wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences with the akulon handles. if felt comfortable, if a little cheap....but then again, the knife was cheap and hence the not being sad about putting it through some abuse. Thanks,

Matt

I would love to know more about the handle strenght as I was just about to order two of these myself.....I have 60+ Kershaws and love them all.....let me know how you make out????

this all was several months ago. i got an insurance claim from UPS and used it to buy a mini cyclone, which i like a lot, lets see what others who've owned this knife have to say. after all, it was only a one time thing with my 15 or so kershaws i have owned, first instance of catastrophic failure in any part.

unfortunately no, the knife is long gone and kershaw didn't require any pictures to do the warranty work...i also was not registered on BF yet. if anyone has the knife i can describe where it happened: the joint on the stock position of the belt clip (tip down), about an eighth inch circle around the screws broke off exposing the mechanisms with the studlock and the pin. the knife would open, but only one side would lock and so i couldnt even use it.

that being said, all of the other blades, the offset, the mini mojo, mini cyclone, baby boa, and centofante that are still in my collection are doing fabulous. the chive and blackout have been retired and passed on. and obviously im not turned off kershaws, im gonna be adding more to my collection tomorrow in fact.....just have to make a damn decision.
