Hello all. This will be my first review so go easy. Always been a knife nut, just never figured there would be a place for us. lol.

Well here is my Kershaw Speed Bump. Got it for a great deal for a USA made knife. My understanding is that Kershaw had some leftover blades and made this little beauty.
I like this knife for what it is but it does have a couple downfalls in my opinion. Thanks in advanced for checking this out.

Only one position for the clip. I would prefer at least a tip up option. Sorry leftys, your SOL.

Some decent jimping on the top for your thumb. Not to sharp which I like. Noticed the thumb stub/ lock. It's hex shape, which I like.

Blade grind is nice and fairly even. Hard to tell in this picture though. Was not shaving sharp, but I will touch it up a bit and get it there. Did well on a paper test though. I like that the front part of the blade is straight and the back has the curve (good for rope). Almost like 2 blades in one.

Made in the good ole U.S.A.

Clip flows nice with the handle. the design with the drilled holes is nice. Sure it saves some weight also. Also the lanyard hole at the bottom of the handle.

One thing I don't like is the tightness of the clip. I tried it on the set of cargo pants and it is extremely tight. Two hands needed. I will try and modify it a bit. A simple pull with your finger is not gonna do it. Probably my biggest gripe with this knife.

Maybe this is just my knife, but we have a little defect here. The center scale (?correct term?) is hire than the rest giving you a bump in the center on the handle. Not sure if it is a manufacturing defect or what. Not the end of the world, but figured I'd point it out since all my other Kershaws are smooth as glass.

In the end. It fits nice in my hand. Always a plus. Thanks for reading.

Hi, thanks for the review.
The "center scale" is usually called a backspacer when in one piece like that, made of various materials.

Good review. Gives a nice picture of the overall characteristics of the knife from fit and finish to size.

Well done.

Thanks for sharing. I have a Titanium Bump in green and love it.

I had a Kershaw Offset, which was my first and only experience with the stud lock. I found that I could hold the knife in my hand and press down on the back of the blade with my thumb and it would close (in spite of the lock.) As a result, I've avoided stud locks. Did you find your lock to be secure.

Honestly. I have not really used it yet. I was also worried about the lock and was careful about it, but gave it a test. Held up. Still not sure if it is the most trusting lock though. The amount I'll be using it, it does not matter. I bought the knife as a collector since Kershaw only made it limited from discontinued stock.

I have both a Speedbump(aluminum) and Specbump I have no problem trusting the lock as they have held up fine for me in use. I like the idea of the lock but I don`t think I would like to try the stud lock models with the round studlock I think it wouldn`t be as safe as the faceted one.

Good review! My clip was very tight as well, ended up modifying it tonight with a vice and a tack hammer. Tapping the clip over has been less likely to break the clips in my experience than simply bending them, best of luck if you rebend yours, fallen in love with mine now.

hello every one
i'm new here i have the S30V version of that knife witch i realy like a lot
i use it as my EDC knife and often pushed it hard it never failed me
the only problem i found about it is when i have to resharpen it what a nightmare
the best method i found was to use sharpening rods
also my S30V steel seems to rust !!!! i have stain spots on the blade
exept for the sharpening issue i recomed this knife to anyone looking for a EDC working flawlessly anytime needed
nice review to ^^

I have not had to sharpen yet. When I do it will be with various round stone rods I have had for sometime. Used them back when I was a tool maker and found them to be useful for odd shaped blades.

yeah i think this is the best way to do it
as for myself used a kitchen sharpener with ceramic rods (wooden base with 2 ceramic rods)
i managed to get hair shaving sharpness that way ^^

Hello hitinui. Welcome to the forum.

I see that you live in Tahiti. I have a few S30V Spec Bumps. When I am in the tropics, I find that I need to rinse and oil the blade down more often. The combination of living right by the sea and the high temps that cause some perspiration condensate while riding in my pocket prove to be too much for even a steel like S30V. I have also found that even 1095 carbon steel does well with a periodic oil down and getting a fresh water rinsing very often.

I can also say that a Spyderco Pacific Salt is great for zero maintenance any place in the tropics that I have been --- but I still carry a Spec everyday.

I bought, then canceled 2 of these from Amazon. Was that a mistake? I canceled based on this review with the clip limit and concerns over the lock vs the more familiar Kershaw liner locks that I have on all my other knives. You mentioned that the single clip position was bad for lefties. Is that based on feel in the left hand or just the singular carry option?

Most Kershaws don't let you put the clip on the left side of the knife. Instead of having the clip be in your palm (the default setup for a righty) the clip is where your fingers hold the knife. This is typical of a lot of knives. Most brands don't offer 4 way clip positioning and/or don't bother to offer options for lefties. It's usually not cost effective or whatever.

Blackbilly, if you want clearer up close pictures, use the Macro function on your camera. It's the flower symbol.

I've beaten on mine a bit now and the locks held up fine, including twisting cut motions that typically disengage liner/frame locks. I'd also say the clip is more lefty friendly than righty, just because it puts the spine of the blade against your pocket seam. YYMV as I am a righty after all.

Hi Blackbilly -

Very nice, especially for your first review!

That knife has a unique locking mechanism, so you might have wanted to mention how that works for people who have never seen that before.

Nice job, thanks for posting your pictures and review!

best regards -

thank you for the input when i bought the knife i had no idea what S30V steel was the seller only told me that it was very high quality steel and i belive so
as for my stain problem i wash the knife after each use even sometime put some WD40 on the blade
as for 1095 steel i got myself an alaskan harpoon from tops 2 weeks ago but didn't had a chance to use it for the moment hope it will be a nice knife
much like you i carry my specbump everyday i love it and ordered myself a composite blade junkyard dog 2 hope i wont have the same problem with the D2 steel
^^

Hmm, perhaps I will have to reorder. I heard they dropped in price for a short while but are back up now. I've been happy with the Cyclone clip as the curve of it works for where three fingers rest when holding it and it doesn't get in the way.

you can't go wrong with that knife MrFoo
exept for the sharpening issues it is a joy to use
when a bought mine the seller told me that they stoped the production of that knife
if you want one maybe you better hurry you wont regret it ^^
