A professional colleague made the mistake of carrying his very small Kershaw Speed-Safe "pocket knife" -a Scallion I think, or Chive or something small like those models- through courthouse security in Colorado Springs, CO. It was confiscated PERMANENTLY and not returned upon his departing the courthouse BECAUSE that assisted opening mechanism falls within the vague and in need of update parameters in the Colorado Revised Statutes. My colleague was detained in a room and "written up" but not charged for posession of an "illegal wepon". Thoughts? Similar experiences? What have you learned about this type of problem?

I'm not sure about your area but here in Ga. any knife in a court house would be confiscated and not returned . They are illegal on Federal Property as far as I know . Ijust went to Federal court and they had taken at least 4 knives off people who tried to go through security .

This is exactly why I don't own a Kershaw speed-safe, despite the fact that I really would like to have a Chive.

The way things are right now somebody who is carrying a knife that is "almost" an auto is just begging to be made an example of by some goon on a power trip.

You might want to check out a previous long running thread, along the lines of "Going to court for a Scallion" or something similar.

Ditto fishbulb. I love Kershaw Onion knives, but it is no surprise that a non-knife-person would be confused as to Speed-Safe's legality. I don't have time to become the test case in my jurisdiction. Frankly, I think they offer no advantage anyway and I don't want one springing open in my pocket. Neat design, though.
