I have a kershaw boa and carry it everyday. Ive had it for around 6 months. abouth 3 weeks ago the speed safe quit working. Anyways i sent it back to kershaw and they fixed it but it doesnt seem to open as good as it used to. im thinking about taking it apart but not sure how complex the assisted open is. Also has anyone ever made custom handles or somehow customized the existing handles for this knives? I was thinking about making some but am wondering if that will somehow void the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with their kershaw speed safe knife is this a common problem that i can expect to happen again?

I have most of all the Kershaw Ken Onion models, and have had the same problem on a couple of them.
If you back off the pivot screw just a little, and not too much that the blade rubs on the liner, it will work faster. What I do is loosen just a little, and push on the thumb stud to see if it works better, and if not loosen it a little more, and keep doing it til it works like it did before.
If the blade gets too loose, etc., and it still does not work right you have another problem, and will have to send it back in.

Hope this helps.

I have two Boas. One of would occasionally fail to open fully when I first got it, but lubricating it (with TuffGlide) took care of the problem without adjusting the pivot.

I am curious about the upcoming "turbo" version of the Boa. Does anyone know more about that?

I didn't see anyone mention it but if you take the Boa apart, do it with the blade open and it's no problem. Also when you do the grease that is in the scale (where the spring is placed) is supposed to be there to cut down on rattling (it works). it's a little tricky to get back together but not too much harder than any other knife with linerlocks. good luck with your boas they are good knives and work well. A turbo boa sounds like it would kick a**

A bit off topic but I'm curious as I seen them for sale in the Uk but are speedsafe opening knives classed as automatic?

The reason I did not mention lubing the pivot was he had just got it back from the factory so assuming(and you know what that means)when they repaired it, had also lubed it so I figgered lubing it would not resolve his problem. So the only other easy try to fix it without having to tear it apart was to try adjusting the pivot a little.
I have also taken them apart, and lubed the insides with more grease to stop the rattle, and it does work. Also on 2 of the 6 of them after a time the torsion bars broke(many, many openings), and had the factory send me new ones, and replaced them. By the way they are great people to talk to, and will send you the parts if you don't want to send the knife in, and feel you can repair yourself. Like one person said it is a little trickey, but having the blade open just like in an auto makes it much easier to take apart, and put back together.

Sorry for the long post, but with the other comments I thought I might go into more detail. Just was trying to come up with an easy simple possible fix.

I just got a Speedsafe, the small framelock. I took it apart after I got home. It was a bit tricky getting it back together but after toying with it, I kinda went "Ah Ha!" and everything fell into place. They're very fun to play with. Mine makes a great money clip as well.
