This sort of came up innapropriately in another thread, but it did make me curious. I love my Ken Onion Chive. I have never handled a Camillus with the ROBO technology, by I like the Camillus fixed blades that I have handled.

I think they are both good companies.

My question is, for those who have tried both, which mechanism do you like better and why?

Or...are they both basically the same....or is comparing the two like comparing an apple to an orange?

I am interested in hearing your thoughts...

i have a Camillus Dominator and Aftermath, and a Kershaw Chive and Leek. i don't have the larger Speedsafe knives, so this may not be a fair comparison.

my preference is for the Robo-mechanism over the Speedsafe. although Speedsafe is easier to open, one does need to be aware of the ease that the blade does open. i also don't really like the safety on the Kershaw design... mind u, for my applications, the safety is not a real problem as the Kershaw knives r not used for anything more than opening a box or cutting some string/rope.

the Robo-mechanism is a bit stiffer and u need to get used to it, but the blade stays closed without the need for a safety. the parts r robust and pretty simple to clean on the Dominator and the Aftermath, with the spring being a solid piece of spring steel. i do believe that there have been failures of the spring on the Speedsafe knives.

the Dominator is built like a tank, and is part of my EDC rotation... the Leek is not unless i am dressing up for an occasion.
