I have about 9 Kershaw knives and wanted to know about the Splinter. I have not handled one but have only seen pictures. I can pick up one for less then 1/2 of List price and was looking for opinions. Any help is appreciated. I think they are also discontinued.

I've heard that they are discontinued as well. I handled the plastic handled one and found it insanely light weight. It would be great as a dress-pants knife. It is smaller than you think--I would almost say smaller than a leek. Thumb-stud only, and the one I handled needed a seasoned flicking thumb. It wasn't tight, but the blade is light.

It looks great, and if you can get it for less than 50% off, I'd say get it and post a review for the rest of us!

Ive spent some time looking them over. Go with the Nakamura, youll enjoy it much more.

Just a note K&G, it's aluminum. ;) :)
And yes, it is too light for me as well.

But that's not to say it's too light for someone else. I'd like my 0301 to be bigger. :D
For a dress pants knife the Splinter would work well. Aluminum or Quince.
Even fancier is the Nakamura that Mr. J_Curd mentioned, which is a beautiful knife.

Mikey boy,

I'm gonna tell you the same thing I've told the last 500 people who have butchered my last name for their personal amusement.

Once you come up with something that actually funny or whitty...like crud, turd, nerd, etc, that WASNT used before 5th grade, I have a $20 bill with your name on it. Until then, its Mr. Curd :D

Ok no wonder it was so light.

Another one you can pick up for cheap as dirt is the Sapphire. That is one seriously light gentleman's knife. The scales are titanium, and I think the liners may be as well. Just don't have any run ins with the Police with that one in your pocket. It has a detent that can be overcome with the slightest flick of the wrist.

Thanks for all your thoughts on the Splinter. Think I'll back off and look at others.

If you want something really light, and really "dressy" I will agree with Spiral as well, get a Sapphire. It has a really sharp full flat grind AUS8 blade with a NICE sharp edge, and titanium scales. Also offers tip up/down. The detent on mine is strong enough not to be considered a "gravity knife".
