Anyone familiar with the Kershaw Spoiler (1334)? I've found basically no info about this knife (other than on one seller's site), and Kershaw doesn't even have it listed on their webpage. Did a quick search here and didn't come up with anything either. I'm a lefty and looking to try out a tanto for the first time. I'm looking for something at a budget price like this one to see if I even like the blade shape before I pony up for something of better quality. At $19 with G10 (maybe -- looks a bit like FRN to me), 8Cr13MoV, a reversible clip, and being fairly large (3.75"), it seems like something that I might be interested in. Just curious if anyone knows anything about it.

It's g10 according to KnifeCenter. Looks like a lot of knife for $20. Byrd Cara Cara 2 in FRN is the only thing that comes to mind as a competitor at that price point.

If you can pony up a bit more, the Link Tanto will be hard to beat and is USA made.

That's a good looking knife, especially nice for the price. If I didn't already own an early model Spyderco Endura 4 that looks pretty similar, I'd definitley consider that one. Like a lot of people, I mostly own spear points, drop points, and clip points right now, so I've been looking to try something a little more non-traditional. Wharncliffe and sheep's foot blades have been speaking to me lately also, but I think I want to try a tanto first.

I've already been eyeing the standard link for a while, and I may still end up picking up one of those (still undecided which handle material). The Link tanto has a tip angle that is more obtuse than I'm really looking for. It just doesn't speak to me for some reason. Also, I have concerns about maintaining the secondary tip in sharpening. I love the look of the more Americanized tanto blades like the Cold Steel Code 4/Recon, Emerson, etc., and I think it might be easier to sharpen without rounding over the transition. Could be wrong on that.

I'm with you that the Spoiler looks like a lot of knife for the money. I just happened to run across it on Knifecenter last night, and I immediately started trying to find some reviews on it. Nothing. Just curious if anyone knew if it was new, old, only available in other markets, etc. I did see somewhere that it mentioned "limited run" or something like that. Maybe that explains the lack of info. I may just have to pick one up and find out for myself. For $20, it probably can't be all that bad.

I've also got the Ontario Utilitac II tanto and the Kershaw Emerson CQC-8K on my short list. The blade on the Utilitac is kind of broad, and I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I like the look of it. I like the looks of the CQC-8K, and I would love to try the chisel grind. But, I keep hearing that the screws are ridiculously soft, so I'm afraid I'm going to strip them out the first time I have to take it apart for maintenance. That would kind of suck.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

Kershaw will do a lot of special runs for different retailers. Usually they're slightly different versions of existing models, but sometimes they're unique designs. The 8Cr13MoV is serviceable steel and real G10 is a huge upgrade over the GFN you usually find at this price point. The biggest con on this knife is probably paying $7 to ship a $20 knife!

Good point on the cost of shipping. Well, maybe I just need to lump it together with a few other knives to make it more worth my while. I'm sure my wife would understand. ;)

Now you're thinking like a proper blade addict! And...if you've got to spend $99 to get free shipping, may as well spend $160 to pick up a ZT 0620 and try a Tanto blade and Wave Opening all at the same time. It's just logical! You're practically losing money if you don't!

I figure my wife will always understand, I may just not like her understanding! :p

You know, actually a Kershaw Emerson isn't bad idea. You could try a CQC7 or CQC8 and get Tanto/Wave. I've checked out a couple of the Kershaw Emersons and they're really well made knives.

I like the way you think!

That's good to know. I've never actually handled one. They seem to be pretty popular, so I'm mostly just worried about stripping out the screws. I thought it was just a few people being ultra picky at first, but I keep reading in more and more places that the phillips head screws are surprisingly soft and that you really have to be careful if you take it apart to clean/lube it. I suppose I could always get replacement hardware if they stripped out, but that seems like a pain. Kind of a shame if that really is a common issue. I haven't ruled them out, it's just something that keeps popping up in the back of my mind when I look at them online.

I saw Knifecenter mention this Kershaw Spoiler on Instagram earlier today. Apparently it's a brand new item for them. Since I don't see it anywhere else (except overseas sellers -- Asia and UK), I'm guessing it's an exclusive for them. Or, at least they have first dibs on it for the US market.

I just put in an order for one. My shipping only ended up being about $3, so just under $23 to my door. The only catch... my wife won't let me play with it until Christmas. I can live with that, I guess. :) I'll try to remember to come back and update the thread with my thoughts after I've used it a bit.

I just looked at it again on Knifecenter and noticed something that I hadn't before. The handle shape isn't exactly the same, but it's pretty darn similar to the one on my Kershaw Piston that I really like. No machining in the G10 and slight differences on the ends, but definitely a strong resemblance. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since both of them have automotive related names. Just found it funny that I never noticed it until after I had already placed my order.

When I was looking for info, I found this;

"An Exclusive Limited EDC or Tactical knife, made by Kershaw for the overseas market only".

There was a video from a US based seller on Youtube and I also found this "quick flick video" from another seller that was "Overseas" so I thought it would be OK to post without stepping on a US based seller's and advertisers/site sponsors toes:

I agree with the above posters, it looks like a good buy for the $$.

These budget blades from Kershaw are my favorite segment of the knife market. They offer tons of utility and plenty of aesthetic appeal for not much coinage, with the added benefit of exposing just how overpriced some knives are.

My shipping only ended up being about $3

Same here. $2.99 shipping for a total of $22.94. I was going to order 2x - because that's how I ride - but shipping would have been over $7.00. So I'll place 2x separate orders and save a buck on shipping.

I agree. I love that you can get a very serviceable knife with even a bit of character for $20/30/40. For a while, I was kind of numb on the budget Kershaws, with the sea of black FRN, but they've really started to impress me again with the variety in the budget stuff they've been introducing lately. There really is something for just about everyone's style. I'm not above buying their Chinese-produced stuff (obviously, based on this purchase), but I'm even more excited to see that they're now doing stuff like the Link. It's basically the same price point as the Chinese stuff, and you get to buy American. That's really cool! I hope they can figure out ways to do more to those knives too.

I ordered 10 of them, it seemed like a good item for a Christmas gift, and I got FREE shipping! :D

Now, what about this "Link Tanto"?

I apologize for bringing this thread back after a bit of dormancy, but... does it remind anyone else of a ZT 0400?

I'd say shape wise its a cross between a 0400 scavenger and a tanto mini cyclone

Over many years my accumulation of knives has become ? I'll say interesting. I've also learned to greatly appreciate high quality knives like my Spartan, Winkler II, and others. In the same way I also appreciate good quality knives that are great values for little money. For me that used to be Cold Steel. I have many Cold Steel knives and all of them are excellent. Some of my Cold Steel knives are superior high dollar knives and some are not. However, I have found knives like the Kershaw 1334 Spoiler ($23.52 including Shipping) to be exceptional for most days needs. I carry either the Kershaw Blur or Kershaw Spoiler as EDC's on most days. I have large hands and the Spoiler fits me a little better. They are both tip-up pocket carry and that's the only type of folder I use. I rarely have less than three knives when heading out depending on my objectives. So there's plenty of opportunities for various types of knife styles by various makers.

Jump on it, I doubt you'll go wrong. It reminds me of the Kershaw Tremor I got for $12 a few years ago (size, materials, flipper, speedsafe, not so much shape). That knife has been my toolbox beater and I've done some silly crap with it and it's still going strong.

Well, a little update on my Spoiler after using it a bit. I've been using it almost daily for the past week while doing some remodeling on my house. I have to say that I'm loving this knife! I've been really impressed so far. It came well centered, it opens reliably with very little effort using the flipper, the G-10 is nicely shaped and rounded on the edges (could do some serious work without hot spots), it was pretty darn sharp straight out of the box and quickly cleaned up into a hair-popping edge, it has room to spare for my size large hands, it carries nice and deep in the pocket with a small-ish clip for the size of the knife, it only cost $20, and it looks great to boot! Hard to find too many faults with that combination of features. Only time will tell for sure, but I think I'm going to really like the tanto blade too. With its very fine tip and straight edges, it works great for utility tasks. I'd highly recommend it, especially at the current price.
