Does anyone have a Kershaw Storm II that he's used over an extended time? I'd like to know your opinions now and when you first got the knife. Especially, how has it fared? How is the edge retention? Do you find the blade difficult to work with? What is yours used primarily for? And would you recommend them?

Thanks for your replies!

I got mine back in the spring at wally world. mine has the partially serrated edge. my first impression was it was a great looking knife and made in the usa to boot. edge retention has been great. it very rarely needs sharpening but i dont cut a lot of tough stuff. its edge holding seems to me to be as good or better than a knife i have with a VG-10 blade. being a recurve blade was a little hard to get used too and thats one of only three complaints i have with the storm II. another is the trac-tec inserts in the handle. they are very rough at first but they have lost some of their roughness over time. at first they were sanding everything they rubbed against in my pocket like my keys and car remote. the last complaint is the ugly pocket clip. its just bigger than i like. but over all i love the knife. very thin, strong as an anvil frame lock, and the new serration pattern cuts very well. i definately would recomend this knife to anyone. its an outstanding value for the money.,,,VWB.

I can say that if it didn't have that recurved blade, I'd have 3 of them! 13C26 steel, steel framelock (my preferred to titanium, I've never thought any knife was "heavy"), for around 30.00? Great steal of a deal! Just can't do those recurves though, I like to free hand sharpen on a stone.

I've used one on and off for about 7 months. It's a good knife.
The positive:
It takes and keeps a good edge. Resharpening is easy. The recurve helps with rope and cord.
The negative: I hate the Trac Tec inserts too.

I saw some with Guilherme Marchi's signature and silhouette, but that has no appeal to me. It's a good knife for the money, and will serve you in EDC situations.

I use one for my EDC. The serration on those things are weird, it's like half moons, which I have no idea how to sharpen (I got plain edge).

Impression is it's a very good knife, but three quirks. One is as previsouly mentioned, the insert is pretty harsh, but I scraped a toothbrush handle against it and now it feels very comfortable. Second thing is the thumbstud sucks, you need to sand down the sharp edges or you'll have a bloody thumb in a day. Last is it takes too much force to open, which also contribute to the bloody thumb. I took it apart and grinded the semi-sphere on the lock portion of handle to a slope shape so it opens easier.

I got one a ways back and I like it, a lot! Thin, small, strong, laser sharp and great value for little $$. Actually this is my second. I gave my big Manix, a Blur and my first Storm 2 to my son. I almost got another Manix, but did get another Storm 2. I'm currently waiting for a Junkyard Dog 2 and a large Ka-Bar TDI to arrive. There is just something about the way this little knife feels in my hand. I bought a small black sheath for my Storm and it all rides darn near flat as a credit card on my hip. I also like the sand papery finnish as it gives grip when wet. I've had to defend myself from many a wet, slippery billigerent potatoe with this knife! And the thumb studs? Yup, quite sharp. I just loosened the pivot screw a tad and I can whip that blade out with moderate resistance, making it a considerably easier on my thumb. Overall the knife is on the smallish side for my XL hands. This leads me to the conclusion that the Storm 2 would be a great knife to give to a female. It even has a key ring/chain hole on the end. Yes, I like this knife quite a bit.

Hell yeah. A Storm II is the EDC of my fiancée. Overall the knife is a well made, sharp and inexpensive piece, but the handle is way too narrow for a male with even average hands.

I like it and feel its a fine user. Didn't much care for the thumb stud texture or the clip though and changed both of those. Otherwise it does well as a beater upper EDC folder.

I'm not exactly answering the question as my experience is mostly with the smaller Storm... but they're basically the same knife so here goes:

I've been EDCing my Storm since the day I bought it... It's is my main knife for work (shipping & receiving) so it cuts a hell of a lot of cardboard. I don't need to sharpen it often (every 1-2 months). I do touch it up every few days with a few passes on a very fine croc stick (takes me all of 30 seconds). It's a great knife for the price and I would definitely buy another if I lost it. I also have a partially serrated Storm II but I find the Storm fits my really small hands a bit better (5' tall female). The only downside for me personally is that I can't stand the thumbstud... but that's an easy change if I were so inclined. Just my $.02.

For those that don't like the thumbstud, with some practice you can use the little bit of tang protruding from the spine of the handle as a flipper.

i liked mine but prefer the jyd2 overall. if the jyd2 was as thin in the pocket as the storm2, it would be about perfect. maybe clip the point a little...

Interesting comment Magnum. I was showing the my JYD2 to the warden and said to her "jeez, these look like big and little brothers" And I agree, I like the JYD2 more also. But then, I go more for bigger knives than the smaller. I like everything about the JYD2 , including the hand filling size.......except, for that big shiny clip. Well ok, I like pretty much every knife that I get.:p

I love the knife, the 13C26 really keeps a good edge and I avoid the thumbstud (I almost did'n know it was there) I really like the sound you get by opening the blade with the indexfinger on the back of the blade, like you Vivi
