kershaw storm II.

any1 has an opinion on this knife? i like how it looks like, but price makes it strange..

thank you,
b.

One of my best friends has a Kershaw storm I (I think the difference is blade length) and loves it. I have a review of it in the reviews area if you want to know details, but here's an overview.

Great price...~30 dollars....looks good...love that recurve blade style...ken onion....the action is fantastic! Thanks to the heavier blade and flipper, this thing is fun. The lockup is so/so, but hasn't come close to failing. Blade develops lateral play after flicking ~20 times...so you may need some loctite....the blade comes really sharp, but is difficult to sharpen (I believe it is 13C26 sandvik)...sandpaperish grit inserts are alittle too much for me and grate my hand when I reach for the knife, but now, about a month down the road, they've worn down some and work pretty well. Plus they look good.

All in all, a great value and a beautiful knife. May not be sheeple friendly.

Great knife! I have Storm II.

Great blade shape - very tactical with agresive tip looking up.

Premium swedish steel - Sandvic 13C26. Sandvic is ore deposit - gift from Nature to Swedish metallurgy, don't have sulfur and phosfor at all. At some point after lots of investigations KaBar choose Sandvic 12C27 for NextGeneration (it was group of experts who suppose to design modern KaBar and the choose best fr it) unfortunately they switched to 440A. Sandvic 13C26 has bit less Cr and bit more C - it should be even better.

Great handle (410 steel), very comfortable and safe. Wide comfortable clip. Grippy insets.

I only don't like that decorative holes, it is OK in the middle of the handle - for aeration etc. But at the beginig it just looks unnatural, but I can live with it.

Overall design is populr today - Bump, Dominator, Scrimish, Buck Maio. All similar but 5 times more expensive, plus they don't have insets and blade geometry on this one is just amazing!

Only price $28.10 (NG) is very suspitios! Somewhere something wrong, but I can not see it after month having it so far. I thought it made in China or Taiwan, but it clearly stated - Made in USA. I bougt it just becouse I was curious - why it is so cheap?

Something going on in Kershaw - they also made this huge D2 Outcast for $59. This is all strange.

Thanks, Vassili.

P.S. I'll post pictures Monday.

Kershaw Storm brief review

And here's a month-after followup on a bunch of knives I've reviewed, including the Storm:

Long term evaluation

I can't really say much about the Storm II, but I assume it's essentially identical outside of length, so I'm going to go ahead and recommend it. I would check the lockup at the store though, and also make sure that the grip inserts won't annoy you too much. They DO wear down in about a month though and become a lot more comfortable (for me).

"The integral lock has worked well, however, actually looking at the knife locked can sometimes worry me. The lock does not go very far over in front of the blade. Nonetheless, while I haven't done the intense lock testing that I do on my knives on it (it's a friend's knife) I am not very concerned about it. Especially with your grip around it, and the flipper effective protecting your finger in a worst case scenario."

i got the knife and confirm all, that already said about storm2. the only strange, may be bad, thing is the lock. it uses only 1mm, while having 2mm totally. it didn fail yet and flipper is there but..
except this, the knife is excellent.

btw, i have resharpened the blade from original kershaws 40 degree to 30 degree on sharpmaker. after that went in the forest and practiced slicing the wood. in the end it was still shaving sharp as before, inspite of hard work. good steel, good thermowork.

Congradulations on your purchase...you'll love that knife. Now, anyone here at BF that can confirm this would be great, but taking a closer look at my friend's storm a few days back and the lockup appeared to have improved somewhat. In time, the lockup might improve slightly. I might just be imaging this, though.

honestly, i cant understand how this lock thingy happened.. it is the only weak spot in the knife, and it can be made better easily. just add another 1mm, and you get solid 2mm totally, would be much more safer.

i would like to add, that this knife is not for wood work, too thin handle. imho, it is designed for usual daily work plus generous selfdefense ability.
