Kershaw Storm II

I carry one sometimes, it's a tough knife for hard use and it cuts well sharpens easy, plus it's made in the USA! Can't beat them for the money.

i bought one at walmart. its horrible. i used it as a utility knife. doesnt cut well. doesnt sharpen well. when i have it in my pocket i fear that it will open accidently and cut or stab me. its TOO easy for the blade to open on this folder.

It's tip down carry for a reason.

A lot of folders will open partially if they are dropped.
I and many others have been well pleased with the performance of the Kershaw Storm and it holds an edge very well for the money, I've found mine to be exceptionally easy to keep sharp with ceramic sticks.

Wow. Mine kept a super edge, easily restored, as Jill says with a Sharpmaker. Never a problem with opening inadvertently -- but then, I don't drop knives.

I carry a Shallot now which has basically the same construction, all metal framelock, and a bit slimmer configuration.

you dont have to drop it to realize it has little tension when closed. i noticed it getting loose when i was out in the field in my front pocket. for safety reasons i rarely carry it around.

I just dropped mine from 8 feet onto thin carpet and it stayed closed.
Maybe you need to tighten the pivot pin.

dropped it from 3 onto carpet and it gave.LOL which one is that? you mean the main bolt that connects the blade and the knife?

The hinge pin the blade swings on can be tightened up. It should keep it from opening so easyily.
The one knife I used to have with a blade that would literally fall open on it's own, was a Benchmade Dejavoo. This Storm isn't nothing like that.

i will try this. much thanks

Use a tiny bit of loctite blue #242 thread locker on the screw and you'll never have a problem. Tighten it fully and then back it off just a hair. I've been carrying a Storm II almost since they came out and they are a fantastic and tough knife for the money, very underrated IMHO.

This is a bit off-topic but does anyone know if the stainless steel handle the Storm has is prone to staining? I'm asking as I live in a tropical country with high humidity. It seems like a great knife and great value too but my last Kershaw; a Needs Work has been having rust issues. Nothing major, pinhole sized rust spots here and there. I'm thinking the finish of the blade may be to blame because it tends to "hold" in moisture (if that even makes sense.

Most of Kershaw's offerings are assisted which is a grey area for our knife laws or I'd have bought more. Didn't realise the Needs Work was assisted too until I got it. Thankfully it got through our customs ok.

i carried a combo edge storm 2 for many months on a very tough construction site, and it served me quite well. the knife is excellent for use with gloves, and its pretty strong. i abused mine quite a bit doing various tasks around the job site, and it held up well. its not the perfect knife, but for what it costs, you get a real hard user. i also found its shape to be quite useful for utility tasks around the site.

I've used mine in rainstorms and then just thrown it back in my pocket and forgot about it for awhile. No problems. I usually clean it with soap and water and wipe dry then displace any water in the pivot with WD40 and then use a couple drops of light oil. I think it would serve you well in singapore. Also, not being an A/O the Storm does have a tiny flipper on the backside, which, with a little practice makes it an easy one hander.

For the price available on the auction site last time I checked, I think it may be the best value in a folding knife.
The lockup is rock solid. The lock bar has no play like some do, because it's quite wide at the base. The ball detent holds the blade shut more tightly than any other frame/liner lock I've handled. In fact I need to use the thumb stub and the flipper simultaneously to open it.
The only thing I don't like about it is the large clip which looks goofy for pocket carry. I normally carry IWB so it's not an issue.
Oh, one more nitpick - the thumb stud is a grooved, wedged shape which gives the thumb a good purchase but is a bit rough.
