Well, it's actually a framelock. Also, I'd like to say that this isn't a reflection of failures on higher end knives...the Benchmade Skirmishes I've handled had superb lockup--well, even the Chives I've handled.
Apparently, it was being used like an exacto knife, with fingers out of the way (thankfully) and he accidentally hit the back of the knife against the desk (not hard). I'm not too sure about the details, just that his fingers were out of the way...and it happened a few weeks ago so it's a bit fuzzy. Next time I talk to him we'll get the whole story.
I'm sure Kershaw will replace it. I actually really like Kershaw, though the Storm was one of my favorites and I think I'm going to have to remove it from the list....which doesn't mean I don't still like it, just not a favorite anymore.
I reported in the initial review of the storm that the lock up was not very good, so we were weary of it from the get go, but it had been reliable up until recently. It may just be a coincidence...I actually personally doubt that the lockup has changed much, it was just a new combination of circumstances.
We have tried any fixes, we're just going to let Kershaw deal with it. Hopefully he'll just get a new knife.
