Kershaw suggestions for a person beginning a collection

I just ordered a spec bump, a boa, and a mini cyclone to start my kershaw collection.

I am looking to add 2-3 more to get a feel for their offerings (I will start on ZT later). I am reserving one of those slots for a blur. My request is for a recommendation for 1-2 more kershaw knives that would be considered core to the basic style/idealology of kershaw. I will say, i find things like the composite blade volt to be hideous (the lack of symmetry in the "graphics" is really unappealing to me).

Spending $100 or more is not a problem for me if I like it.

Thank you for your suggestions,
Rich

You are off too good start.

Some suggestions.

You need at least one Leek in your collection. There are many different Leeks to choose from.

I'd also grab a RAM (Grant & Gavin Hawk design).

The Groove (RJ Martin design) is nice knife that doesn't get a lot of attention.

The new Random Task II is coming out soon as is the Speedform II and the TG1 (Galyean design).

Honestly...there are soooooo many choices. I'd check out the Kershaw website to get a feel for their current offerings.

+1 to both of these.

Really, though, I agree with the previous poster that there are a ton of good options out there from Kershaw and that you're unlikely to go wrong whatever you pick.

Damascus shallot? Orange CPM 154 blur? JYD SG2/Ti? Black RAM with Dobson scales? (Pictured below)

The JYD 1 & 2, the Groove, and the Leek. All are excellent Kershaws

The Needs Work (middle knife) is an inexpensive "utility"-style knife that is handy around the house.

I'm pretty partial to the Leek

IMO, the quintessential Kershaws are the Leeks. There are so many different models of Leeks that you could base a collection just on Leeks. But really, look at all the Ken Onion designs. That will get you most of the Kershaws right there. Check out the Offset, Blur, Storm, Shallot and Junkyard Dogs. For the new models, check out the Volt and Speedform. For the "bang for the buck", check out the Skyline and OD-1. I've have many Kershaws over the years but my favorites are my Leek, Skyline and Blur CB.

The sooner you can get into the Zero Tolerances, the better. I absolutely love my ZT0300!

I would agree on any of the leeks. A must have is the groove. It is what kershaw is all about. High quality, smooth action, and pretty too. All for around $50-$60.

I recommend getting a JYDII SG2 blem if you still can.

At under $80 it is the bargain of the year.

There are so many good Kershaw to choose from , you have chosen wisely :)

Thanks for all the recommendations. On the Blur I will be getting a cpm 154 version if I can, just because that steel is not used much and I have over 15 knives in s30v.

So I guess I have to get a leek. I was looking at the Lahar, but no one recommended that.

I guess I will get a RAM, just to try the hawk lock.

That will give me 6 kershaws, I think that will qualify me as having an idea about their knives.

I will probably hit ZT after the 550 comes out.

The Lahar is great knife...another one that flies way under the radar both for price and performance. VG-10 / G-10 and a nifty flipper for about $60. That's a deal. This is the knife I recommend to friends looking for a Kershaw but not wanting an AO knife.

havent seen a mention of the blackout or whirlwind ive had a few of these for edc use with great results. also have to say +1 for the leek and if you are open to autos try the breakout you can pick one up for about $85 any day of the week and they r very nice, one of the thinest autos ive seen

Trust me it's an addiction. Since this picture was taken I have added 6 more to the Kershaw collection.

you should look into buying the kershaw energy 1740 model.... it was my first kershaw and loved it...

I like my Lahar a lot for a bigger EDC. And Damascus Skyline is pretty neat for a nice light EDC. The pack rat is quickly winning me over as well, and i'm a "take it or leave it" kind of guy on the A/O thing. All the JYD's are beautiful IMHO, and the Blur's are about the perfect sized EDC for me.
Pics from the net, too lazy to take pics of my knives.
