Kershaw Talon 1420 score!

So I traded a $10 knife today for a pair of throwing knives and a Kershaw 1420, that at the moment I knew nothing about. I looked it up and apparently this is a pretty rare, discontinued knife. It's mildly beat up and missing the clip, but I traded a $10(retail price, I paid $5.32 for it) for a CKC throwing knife set that MSRP at $25(am going to resell for $10 easily) and this Kershaw talon 1420. Apparently this is a huge score for me. I found one that sold on ebay for $90 last week. I'm really taken back at this trade, at the moment I didn't know if this was some run of the mill kershaw I was actually more interested in the throwers. He either didn't know what he had, or they weren't his... Pictures aren't that great, really need to bust out the good camera.

Beautiful knife, I still have mine from the good old days. My EDC at the time. Got bumped by a Microtech and then a Sebenza. Not everyone likes a hawksbill (I do) but this is a solid, hard-working knife. You really scored.

I like hawkbills, I like this knife a lot. My EDC is always some format of benchmade, wasn't a fan of Kershaw till about 4 months ago. Bought one at WalMart years ago and it broke but lately I've learned of their quality and like their style. I emailed Kershaw about getting a pocket clip, not sure if I want to hold on to this knife or sell it, but definitely a great little knife, it will probably go in my drawer with my CRKT ripple to be used one day down the road when I get bored, if ever, of benchmades.

Incidentally, the Talon came in 3 models. The plain edge, a combination edge, and a bottle opener. The opener was a hook on top of the blade, just like the Emerson. Some martial artists found they could use this to open the blade into a reverse grip. They were very much in demand for a time.

The Talon also had a sister model called the Starkey Ridge. This was a straight blade, but like the Talon, it has titanium slabs over steel liners. I picked one of them up a shott while ago, just to have the companion piece. Another great solid knife.

Great knife! I reviewed one in a passaround way back when, and I loved the knife! It is a great cutter, and the tip goes right where you want it to when you want it to; the ergonomics are very natural.

The only thing I had about those is that I constantly pulled it out of my pocket backwards, as it took a while to train myself that the curve was backwards to what I "felt".

I have the ZT version of your beauty -

That's a nice knife. I got my dad one of the bottle opener versions (bought from the great James Mattis, back in the day). Great find...

I have a 1420 BNIB, and also the later Kershaw 1425 Talon II and ZT0750.

The rest of the old Kershaw High Tech series are great as well, including the Starkey Ridge models, Wild Wild Turkey, and Hawk. I'll edit to add pictures when I get a chance.

And yes, you did land a great deal there! I paid several times that for my user 1410 Ti Starkey Ridge that had been re blasted and sharpened a bit (but still in good shape).

Two answers that you might not like.
A: whatever someone is willing to pay.
B: You need to be a paying member (gold status) to ask for values on knives or sell knives on here.

Good luck in your search. Buy a membership and sell it on here.

Man that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. A good man that is still greatly missed.

Don Rearic has a review on his site about the Talon used for Pikal techniques.

Good find!

Here is the link. He reviews the model with bottle opener.
