Who designed this, and why? Was it designed for Pikal grip or did it just work out that way?

I don't know who designed them , but they are very collectible today ! Especially the modified one with bottle opener.

I doubt it was designed for pikal. Even Opinel has a pruning knife with a blade and handle curved like the Talon. It's a classic working knife style.

The wave is patented sure but that doesn't mean Emerson was the first.. look at the radio.. Marconi didn't invent the radio.

Yeah great score, it is factory sharp, nice clean factory lines on the edge, mint except for the slight bronze patina on the blade which I might be able to polish out w/ Flitz. Oh and here's the rub, that thrift store sells on commission.. 50/50

Not bad considering they sell for over $100 on the bay. Good Job !!!
