I just left Academy with my new Kershaw Thermite Blackwash. I got home and sliced open the clamshell pack with my BM Griptilian and pulled the Thermite out. Instantly, I noticed that the lockbar stabilizer was missing and the hole was drilled slightly off. Has anyone had any issues like this before? I contacted Kershaw and am hoping they can resolve these issues.

I know, I know, it's a $40 knife, but this is the first time I've ever had an issue with Kershaw QC. To be honest, there is no lateral blade play and the lock up is great!

Anyone know what the extra screws are for?

Yes. Yes I have. Purchased a thermite and when I tried to reposition the pocket clip I ruined 5 torx bits because the screws wouldn't budge. Emailed Kershaw to no avail. Subsequently drilled through the screws and replaced them with new screws, going through four drill bits doing it. Got the clip where I wanted it. Never heard from Kershaw. I own a Vapor II from ten years ago and it's still flawless (also made in China). Seems like their QC is slipping. I'll never buy a foreign made Kershaw again. I own a skyline and a ZT. I love both. Both American made. Hope you have better luck with them. I've heard from other people that they have had very positive customer service experiences with them though. For what it's worth.

I believe the extra screws are for switching the clip for left handed carry, the original screws were not long enough to go through the G10 and thread.

I would take it back to the store and get a new one. Would be faster than sending it to Tualatin

Just return it to the store for an exchange, it be quicker than sending it in to KAI.

No kidding!! Why would you keep a screwed up product? Do you want to mail it off to Kershaw, wait for their repairs, then wait to get it back? Seems your gas and time would be a lot less than one way postage alone... not to mention time to package, take to the post office, then waiting.

Back to Academy it would go. I haven't had a problem returning anything to them as long as I have my receipt.

Sorry to see this man. Definitely head back to Academy and show them whatup with your knife.

The only problem I had with my Thermite was the screws not long enough for switching over to left-side carry... when I got mine they didn't have extra screws. Guess they include them by default now, that is nice.

Terribly sorry this experience has sullied your views on foreign made Kershaws. I have no vested stake in the company but I have loved all the Kershaws I have bought, foreign or U.S. made, and somehow it saddens me that this has happened the way it did. Weird, I know. I think you'll have no problems getting it returned. Best of luck, sir.
