I am looking to purchase a Kershaw Tilt off eBay. The guy has a perfect feedback score. The only thing that kinda has me questioning the knife is it says it is the 4001-sw in the title. I have noticed that the photos of the 4001-SW I have seen have the "SW" marked on the blade and this one doesn't. Also the serial numbers I have seen in the hundreds range are all marked #111, #222 as example and this one has the leading 0 so it #0222.

Anyone have any experience with these and can give a little advice? Couple of pics I was sent below. He is asking $360 for the knife and it's new in box. I'm just no expert so I want to be safe. Buying cause the serial number is my son's DOB and want to give it to him for gift for his 16th bday.

shoot me an e-mail and ill tell you where to find a tilt from a guy here on the forums itll be cheaper and yu can trust him.... if hes not out

Hmmm, not sure about this one. I am comparing it to two of mine. You are right my serial numbers are SER.256, and SER.255. There is no 0XXX. Also the 4001SW should be on the blade comparing it to mine. Not sure why there is 0217 and no 4001SW. I would probably hold off buying it til someone like thomas chimes in.

Yeah, couldn't find one other photo with the leading 0 in the serial or the blade without the SW.

Looks totally legit to me. Someone may have clicked the wrong box or something when it hit the laser for marking. I don't think it makes them more valuable like misprinted money or stamps but I think adds a level of uniqueness in addition to having a DOB as the serial number. It really shouldn't make it worth less. If you are willing to pay a $100 premium for that particular serial number I'd say go for it! Your son will absolutely love it!

I just looked at 5 of them and they all have three digit numbers and they all have SW, that being said I would think it would be very hard to copy that knife that well, however the knife you have in the photo appears to have a 7 on the end rather than a 2, any way just make sure to proceed with caution and make sure that the ebay transaction is all done by the rules, there is buyer protection if it is all done by the book. Don't do it away from ebay and use paypal.

If someone copyed the tilt I'd think they'd loose $$ trying to make it as perfect as Kershaw has.

So it came in today. What an amazing knife. I had one question though. There are spots on the flipper. Would these be rust? Is this something I can fix or have fixed or am I being too picky?

looks like rust. I have a tilt and it has a 4 digit serial starting with 0

I think I may have come up with a possible explanation. The picture below is from google and it is the DLC that shows "0" leading the number and NO SW.
I guess that maybe b/c they stopped making the DLC that they machine marked another SW batch that was originally intended for DLC coating.
My question would be are there 2 of every # now? 01 and 1
