I was wondering if the kershaw torx tool is woth the $'s and if it only works for kershaws or if it will work for spydies and benchmades.

I would think that it would work on any torx head screw of that size regardless of brand. if you look around you can probably pick up a good set of torx screwdrivers for not too much money. go with a good brand not the 10 for a dollar wally world cheapies.

check out the huskt one from home dept $5.95 and it has T4 T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 T10 AND T15

The Kershaw one is great, and uses standard sizes. It's worked on the knives I've tried, and also works perfectly for hard drive, but that's another story.

I've got both the Kershaw and the Kobalt. The Kobalt has mre sizes, and is very useful. Easy to get, too. I don't see an difference in performance.

The Kershaw Torx is free if you get it directly from them. I have done this several times after giving mine away, and they come with the replacement parts if you is request them. Just give Kershaw a call or e-mail, they have always been helpful for me. I use the Kershaw somtimes, but I use a bit driver and a set of bits from an auto parts store most of the time. The driver has a bigger handle and lets you remove the stubborn bits, it is also more comfortable to use.
