I don't have both at the moment, but, have owned and handled both. Although they are similar in size they are vastly different knives. IMO the nod goes to the Turbulence (shocking right ;)) almost purely on the ergonomic front. it is a great handling knife and carries well. I found the rift lacking in positive grip. I just couldn't get comfortable on the handle. I know everyone has different hands, so in this area YMMV. The locks are vastly different as well, you are looking at an Axis lock vs a Liner lock. It is generally accepted that the Axis lock is a very strong lock.... that said, Kershaw makes a great locking, thick liner lock so you are giving up nothing there. You are looking at 14C28N vs S30V..... Both take a wicked edge... S30V might hold it better but 14C28N is nothing to sneeze at and in day to day use.... you probably wont be able to tell much of a difference (unless you are a steel snob like me). Finally... the Turbulence costs about 1/2 as much.... I say give it a go, you will probably like it. With Kershaw's commitment to making great product and darn good warranty, you won't be out anything IMO.

Ultimately.... you will choose one or the other and still want to try the one you didn't..... so goes the life of a knife guy. Hope you enjoy which ever you decide to go with.

The Rift I had was of the 154cm variety, I didn't know they made on in S30V. The Rift and the Bone Collector was my dive into the world of BM, and the lack of edge holding ability and the lack of response from BM's CS was why I got out of the BM world. I don't know if there was a problem with 154cm used in my example of the Rift or if that just how 154cm behaves, because I didn't have anything to compare it too, but I didn't like it. Give me 14c28n any day.

It seems my memory has failed me once again.... nice catch. :) You are very much correct.

I've had both. I carry my Turbulence almost every day. The Rift on the other hand got sold. It was a great knife, but the blade grind was not as easily sharpened as the Turbulence. For a knife that is going to get lots of pocket time and use, the Turbulence would be my pick.

Honestly, I'd say turbulence... I sold mine because I thought it was uncomfortable, but I could see how some would like it. The design is ergonomic, but I feel that the front finger notch is far too large/wide. I prefer one the size of the one on the skyline, and I have very large hands. The smaller notch gives a tighter grip. On the turbulence it is so large that it is completely out of proportion with the rest of the handle, and feels out of place on the knife (imo).

Thank you all for the replys -looks like the Kershaw is the winner was noticing the finger guard thingie looks a bit large might trim that down some (?) the steel and $ cant be beat...

The Turbulence Just happens to be the knife that is in my pocket today. It's been one of my favorites from the first time I saw it.

I now have a black one and the Stonewashed one in the pic below.
