Kershaw upkeep

I have a question, which may or may not warrant a new thread in the forum, but having had scoured through what's already been posted I'm still a little clueless. And since all of the knives I own are Kershaw, I figured this would be the place to ask...

I've purchased 3 different knives, each of them having a Tungsten DLC coating on the blade. I know that for most knives made of steel, you're supposed to keep the blade coated with some sort of protectant (oil, etc.) to keep the blade from rusting.
Do I have to worry about this with these DLC coated knives?
I'm using them for EDC, so they are in my pocket for most of the day, every day, when not being used.
I wouldn't really care too much about it if I didn't like the knives so much. I don't want to be carrying them around for a few months and have them start crapping out on me, and I'd like to make sure I'm doing all that I can to keep them in tip-top shape.
Thanks for your help with this.
(PS- Pics of the giveaway Damascus Chive are coming soon, just waiting for the Blue Blur to arrive.. you know- for scale.. :))

The Tungsten DLC coating is extremely tough. It requires little maintenance. If you find scratches on it, more than likely it's material left on the blade, not a scratch in the coating.

I usually wipe it down my EDC daily with a Tuff Glide cloth or other silicon gun cloth like you can find in the sporting goods section of wally world or the like. I keep a very small tool box next to my chair in the den that contains a silicone rag, a clean rag, a small bottle of Hoppe's #9, sharpmaker and torx tool. Most every evening I'll open it up, and while watching TV, wipe the knife down, give it a general inspection, and touch up the blade if necessary.

When not carried, all of my knives in the EDC case are wiped down and inspected monthly. If they need additional cleaning, I do it. The safe queens come out every 3 months or so and get the same treatment, just like I do with my guns.

As for what you need to do, it depends on how hard you use the knife, and it's condition. Apply a little common sense here, and clean them as necessary. They will thank you for this!

What Don Vito said.
It's some tough stuff. Just keep it cleaned and wipe it down
with a little lube every now and again.

Oh, and don't be skeered to take it apart and clean and lube
the internals when you see fit. Easy as pie.

Very tough stuff, and I second Don Vito, Tuff-Cloth is where it's at. Dry film lubricant in a lint free cloth. Easy as hell to apply, no mess, and when my kids grow up they'll tell their children, "grandpa's hands always smelled like tuff-glide.":D

Cheers,
Jon
