Ok,

I know aus-6 steel isn't the best out there but was looking at a vapor 2 and was just wondering aside from touching up the edge frequently how is the rest of the knife? Typical Kershaw quality? I kind of like the look of the flat ground blade and the handle.
Haven't handled one yet just been looking online. Thank you for your input.

I carried one as a work knife for a couple of years. IMO an outstanding knife; very tough.
Yeah, the edge needs frequent touching up, but the aluminum handle and framelock make for a very solid secure feel. Useful blade shape as well. I think you can't go wrong with a Vapor II.

I picked one up at the WMart a few years ago.
I actually really like the knife. It is smooth and locks up solid. In all honesty I think they could have sold it for a little more than the 18 bucks I paid for mine..

great value and utility for a quality 3" blade pocket knife to do common tasks like cutting open boxes, string, envelopes, etc....one of those pocket "v" sharpeners is good enough to keep it sharp...

I had an older Kershaw Black Horse with an AUS6 blade (The new BHII has 440A). The AUS6 on it held up pretty well. Certainly not better than some of the more advanced steels today, but it's good-to-great working steel. I used mine for a year on constructions sites & outdoors work, and the blade held up well. Mine was stolen, and I recently bought another brand new (old stock) one in the same material, for sentimental reasons.

The Vapor, being all metal, will probably be a much better choice for a good beater.

thx - cpr

A few years ago I was about to purchase a Vapor II at a Wal-Mart, but after handling about 3 different ones out of the boxes, I declined. I found the frame-lock was slipping off the blade with light to medium hand pressure on the back of blade in locked position. Luckily they weren't in clamshell packages. However, YMMV. I think the design is good overall, but I'd recommend checking the lockup first, if possible.

thanks for all your replies. I just might give one a go next time I'm around the shop that sells them.
Lately I've been looking for value in knives since I already have some expensive knives for a comparison. I'm having a bit of a tough time spending for higher end knives when I see the performance I'm getting from my cheaper name-brand one's.

I was a little disappointed with it. First it had a defective up thumb stud that gave me a rather painful cut. I got my new one back from warranty and it's still not all that great, it's not horrible either, it's okay. It takes a lot of force to flip it open with one hand it kind of heavy, and it's not all that compfrtable to use.

I have not had trouble with the lock, but the thumb stud doesent work for me. Just to far back to get any leverage to open. Usually I carry it without the clip inside my pocket and just open it by griping the blade (like a nail nick) and so I have never had any sheeple problems.... its just a traditional ippie to most. for edc use the steel holds up well enough for me as well.

ijust got it last week at cabalas they are selling it for 19$ i love my new knife have to get used to it but it is so sweet

I got one a number of years ago at Wally World. It is unremarkable, but a great value for $19 bucks. Mine was an edc for awhile but now stays in the door pocket of my car and is used for opening packages and such. I have no complaints.
