Kershaw Vapor II vs. ?

Hey guys. I just returned an order for a CRKT Rollock and Camillus Sizzle. The Sizzle was WAY too small for my needs (talk about a tiny knife  ) and I just wasn't a fan of the CRKT Rollock opening and closing mechanism.

Well now, I have about 30 dollars in credit to SMKW. I looked around, and saw the Vapor II. Good size, ok steel, framelock, and attractive. It seems to be pretty well regarded on these forums too. Is this the best knife I can get for around 30? If not, what else compares? I would like a 3 - 3.5" blade, one handed opening.

I'd recommend the Storm or StormII over the Vapor. Much better steel, but a bit pricier.

The Spyderco Cara Cara, especially with G10, is very nice if you don't mind the additional width (Spydies are always wider than other knives due to the hole) and less cutting edge.

Thanks for the reply. I found out SMKW has the Storm at 26.99 now. I think I'll get the storm. It is a framelock, correct? And how is the Sandivk 13C26? I haven't seen this steel on knives other than kershaw.

Yes, framelock. Very solid. Got a Storm with not that much engagement on the framelock, but lots of flicking (flipping) is wearing in the lock nicely. It's solid...no play.

13C26 is amazing. On paper, it doesn't look very good (honestly, kinda crappy), but performance is great. Extremely sharp, stays sharp for a good time, and easy to resharpen.

Well, I could talk about 13C26 but here's what STR told me in a thread where I asked about the Kershaw Storm

The Storm and Storm II are two of my favorite beater knives. I carry the II quite often. I find them to be very good folders for the money and quite durable. I got one not too long ago from Thomas to test and I beat the crap out of it batoning it into logs, splitting them by twisting it and doing some pretty extreme cardboard and rope cutting with it. Then I sent it off to Thom Brogan to do some more with it after I resharpened it and used it a bit more first. He reprofiled it down in an experiment to prove a point and it convinced me that the blade steel is capable of wearing many hats in the knife industry.

I am sure we have only seen the tip of the iceberg with what Kershaw can do with this 13C26 steel over the long haul. By the way. That Storm II Thomas sent me is still fine, still locks up just great, took everything I threw at it and dared me to beat it some more. No doubt in my mind that the stainless lock and frame are far more durable than an equal thickness titanium one. No doubt at all. For $30 and some change at Wal-Mart you can't argue with that kind of durability and performance. Heck you can't argue with that at any price.
