I took my Kershaw Vapor for a little trip to Makapu'u Beach on East Oahu, HI today. It got pretty full of salt water and sand  (gives a literal meaning to "it felt like there was sand in the pivot!");). Actually, the action wasn't gritty even with sand in the pivot area...I guess clearances are tight enough so grains of sand couldn't work their way into the pivot area. The knife's very open frame-lock style design made cleaning simple...hosed it off when I washed my body board and fins...good as new! :)

Now of course this all begs the eternal question - the comparison to the gold standard of frame-locks, the CRK Sebenza. Would I rather have 13 Kershaw Vapors at $25 a piece or a CRK Sebenza at $325? Probably I'd go with the Sebenza - but I would rather have a few Kershaw Vapors for myself and a bunch to give to friends over the Seb. :)

There were at 2-3 threads on it earlier, with generally very positive comments.

Personally, I like it a lot (I have the Vapor II). It's my dirty little secret -- it's one of the cheapest (err, least expensive) knives I have (have around 50-60), and I've been carrying it more the last few months than any other knife. Partially because it is less expensive, but mostly because it's a really terrific knife and value.

Is the Vapor the framelock with the bead-blast finish?
How did the bead blast on this knife do as far as the sea water is concerned? (Usually bead blasted blades rust easier, but perhaps this knife has better corrosion resistance?).

No rust on it yet...I did wash it shortly after getting home though.

BTW, this one is Mayonnaised. :) I'll post pics when I get back to Seattle.

i have a vapor II and i think that it is fantastic, Very fluid action and solid lock up, i really do enjoy this knife and for 25 bucks i think that it is the best deal going, sure to capture the most knife for the money from the CUDA arclight.

I do think that Kershaw is going to come to the same conclusion that camillus came to, they made one hell of a knife and pute a pretty poor steel in the blade. I would love to get one with a premium steel in it, btw how hard is it to match the vapors blade? could an inexperienced maker do it?

also anyone know of a type of paint that i could use on the handle that wouldnt scatch off easily, they are just so cheap i want some in other colors.

UW Mitch, i am interested to see what mr mayo did with mr onions design.
