This weekend I handled a Kershaw Vapor, and was impressed with the feel and price of it. I note that everywhere it's advertised (I did a search through google on it), the steel is said to be "stainless steel", with no discussion on what it actually is. Anyone know?

Hi Joe,

I'll be the first to admit, I haven't personally seen, or handled one. However, if you say it had a really good price, then I'd have to say it's 440A. The higher end items have been CPM 440V. But as I said, this is only a speculation. I couldn't find the Vapor in any of my nearby mags.

Thanks! I was worried that it was something even worse than 6A. I will probably pick one up. If it lives up to my impression from picking it up briefly, Kershaw has a real winner in the low-cost category. Maybe we can sweet-talk them into a limited-edition with better steel.

I have a Vapor II. It is SCAAARY sharp and opens very quickly. The stud is a little sharp-edged and there are some casting imperfections on the edges of the handle. Not bad for the money, actually much better than the Kershaw's I've handled at double the price and higher.

I noticed the thumbstud, it was the only obvious problem in the one I handled. Small, sharp, and pointy, like the Sebenza's, but smaller, sharper, and pointier. Ouch.I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do about it, if it bothers me.
