So I got a Kershaw Volt II not too long ago, just about 3 weeks ago (when I got it made a review here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/865336-Volt-2-Review-My-First-Kershaw!). I was opening it today and heard a snapping noise and then all of a sudden the speed safe assist just wasn't as strong as it used to be. Barely pushed the knife more than halfway. So, naturally, I took the knife apart to see what happened, and to my surprise, the torsion bar has cracked.
A little closer.
Also something that caught my attention was one of the screws was stuck in place. Not stuck with loctite or anything, the hex nut on the back end seemed to be somehow glued to the end of the screw, so while you can physically move the screw counter clockwise, the little nut attached to the back end prevented it from actually going anywhere. The nut actually sits flush with the end of the screw... I took a picture of it, it doesn't show much though. I think this problem only pertains to my particular knife...
I don't know how I will fix the handle problem, as there is no real part to replace, but do you think Kershaw will send out a new torsion bar? I have heard of their legendary service, but I don't know if they are stingy with their torsion bars like Benchmade is stingy with their omega springs. I don't think so though.. Anyone get sent out a replacement torsion bar without having to send in their knife?
Besides these issues, the knife serves wonderfully. A great inexpensive user.
I'm going to contact them today. Thought I'd post this to share. So please, no flaming about me bringing problems here to hate on Kershaw. Just a post to let people know that I personally have has a torsion bar break on me just like others have had axis locks break on them. That is all.
