Kershaw Volt II Problem, errrrrr

I picked up an extra Volt II a few weeks ago at AG.....well I just went to pull the A/O Spring....Can't

Two of the pressed in nuts just spin in place, I managed to get one out, but the other wont budge, had I been able to get it out, I would simply glue it back and forget about it.

So now I have to package and ship a brand new knife back to kershaw:mad:

I have considered exchanging it at AG's but that really isn't right to stick him with the problem.

I know that Kershaw will most likely mail me another, thats not the issue.

I wonder how many of these come back.

Just noticed the same nuts are on the Oso Sweet:rolleyes:

Why not put a small dab of super glue between the nut and the G10?

I would happily do that if I could get it out, the pictured nut is just one I could get out, I didn't force the nut out, it was already spinning in place. I can't get enough out to pull the spring or I would forget about it.

Isn't the nut supposed to be seated into the zytel? I was thinking fuse the nut to the black material and pull the bolt out.

To be honest, there warranty fixes this problem, just a pain to have to return it. I was going to give this as a present, and I wanted it ready.

For me I would have no problem firing up the soldering iron and doing a fix, setting it up in a vise to apply pressure to the nut while turning it (hoping the seat isn't stripped out).....But its a gift, and has to be right.

I was misunderstanding, I get it now. Yes since it will be a gift, perfect is the only option. I've called Kershaw regarding a torsion bar and some screws for a Shallot, and I was treated extremely well and received the items within 2 days.

Maybe you could have Kershaw remove the torsion bar before the send it back.

I didn't know the Volts II were AO.

I put that very thing in my letter. I honestly think the AO is overkill, it flips just as smooth as a zing, love it.

I've got a regular Volt and I've been thinking about getting it's little cousin to go with.

Does it have a detent ball to keep the blade in place once the torsion bar as been removed?

Yup thats pretty much the most annoying thing ever! That and the when one of the bolts wont come out on a standoff that has bolts going into it on either side of the knife. Unfortunately it happens sometimes on knives from all sorts of manufacturers. I've dealt with both AG Russell and Kershaw on warranty issues and both are IMO about the best in the business. Send her back in to either one!

Yes, it has a rather large detent ball and it works very well. When I removed my AO bar, i moved the ball out of the liner just a little more and this knife has a great detent. I think they seat the ball lower and out just enough to ride on the blade. I have notised knives coming from China tend to have larger detent balls, which work very well. I also think that 5 screws in the handle is a bit overkill, but mine came right out.

As for the spining nuts, I guess I would try taking out the pivot pin and taking something like a utility razorblade (or the like) and lifting up on the scale and try to see if that would bind the nut enough to get it loose.

These are solid knives and work well. Liners are on the thicker side too. Kershaw needs to build something in the middle of these two knives, I think it would sell well.

I had that to happen with one of my G-10 Tyrades. I took a 2-56 screw I had, screwed it in the nut from the back side and pulled the nut out. Then I super glued it back in and have had no problems since.

Yep, I really like it too, never had it pop open in my pocket

what I don't understand is why kershaw saw the need to have FIVE screws holding the back together.

Agreed

Tried that at first, but I don't want to fight it and risk messing up the liners.
