I'm looking to upgrade a few of my old inexpensive Gerbers and would be interested in others' thoughts. I'm looking for four different things - small EDC for my suit-wearing days, larger knife for my days off, lighter camp knife and heavier survival knife.

First, welcome to the forums!

SOG should not be an option since most of their newest designs infringe on many designs by Benchmade, Spyderco and even the famous Bob Lum.

I would look at Spyderco for a smaller gentlemanly folder since they have many small folder for EDC. Honestly, I would also look to get some larger Spyderco or even a Benchmade for your days off.

As far as a camp knife and a heavier survival knife..... please, look no further than ESEE knives and their forum here. The warranty is impeccable, the knives are quite tough, not to mention supporting a fantastic American knife company.

Let us know what you decide on!

Small EDC - Spyderco ZDP/CF Caly 3

Large - Spyderco Military

Small camp knife - ESEE (Formerly RAT Cutlery)

Large Camp knife - Scrapyard Regulator.

Based on my definition of small (2-3") and large (>3")
for small, office environment, I like Spyderco - Kiwi, Kopa, Dragonfly
for larger EDC I like the Kershaw Blur (SG2 or ZDP189) and Spyderco Sage II

Some good suggestions so far. I heartily endorse the Caly 3 CF for suit carry and the Millie or Paramillie from Spyderco for larger carry on "days off". If you like the AXIS lock, the RIFT or H&K 14205 from BM are great blades that can take a beating and keep going. BM's 707 Sequel is a very nice smaller folder suitable for dress carry. Kershaw will have some good options, esp if you like AO folders. Their Blurs are a great size for EDC and are available in a variety of blade steels. If you want a very heavy duty folder, ZT will have some good offerings. Their 0300 or 0350 are very sturdy folders that can probably stand in there with most prodco heavy duty offerings.

Essee does some outstanding FB knives, as does Bark River, and both are homegrown companies.
