Alright guys/gals and resident experts. What have I got here? I'm looking at a Kershaw Vapor I just bought at the National Scout Museum. Most Vapors I'm familiar with have a thumb stud on them. And naturally considering the source there is a scout emblem on the blade. The model number listed on the packaging is 1640X. The closest thing I can find on the webpage is 1640. Any ideas when Kershaw decided to produce this blade for the BSA? Any ideas why BSA wouldn't want a thumb stud on it? Any info at all? As a side not this knife does not appear in the official BSA catalog for '04. I was thinking I may have a collectable here or something. If nothing else It's pretty darn cool as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks guys

Would you trust a child with an eeevilll one-hand opening knife

That model number looks like an eXclusive. They're done all the time and few people outside the group would see them. In this case, few people who do see them would be sharp enough to know there's a difference.

what does it use to open? a nail-nick? got a picture?

abe m.

oops, i always do that: waking up an old thread after using the search tool. sorry.

Thumb stud............

Or not.

I am surprised that the BSA endorsed a frame lock. I thought, from hearing through the grapevine, that the BSA did not like locking knives. I had always assumed Swiss Army and trapper style knives were the preferred tool of choice.

I see from a quick search that there appears to be a few lockbacks that have been blessed for use by the BSA. Perhaps they have started to see the benfits of a locking blade after all, but are still trying to keep away from the one-handed "quasi tactical" looking knife.

Just my two cents.
