Have an old one. I've tried sharpening this thing and can not for the life of me get it to cut paper cleanly. The angles are all the same as the sharpmaker... it just won't sharpen up! It feels like a razor when i check if it grabs but it won't cut paper cleanly. The edge looks clean and is un chipped. There isnt a bur. Any ideas? It seems like pretty hard steel.
 
Your angles may not be consistent on both sides. When I try the shaving test and it will shave with the hair but not against it or visa versa and there isn't a burr it's turns out to be an inconsistency issue. Usually about 3 passes on the exposed side of the edge of the direction that will not shave brings it to where it needs to be. Hope that made sense.
 
yeah it made sense. I'll try that. thanks. It shaves a few hairs, not pulling them out but it shaves. Not like some of my other knives where they take off a patch in one swipe. Think it could just be the style of blade?
