Kershaw wish list...

I have the Tanto Blur and Spec Bump.

I love the Tanto Blur. I wish it had a finger flipper like the leek/chive series. Also, the blade steel leaves much to be desired. What Id like to see is a tanto blur with sandvick or S30V steel and a flipper. Its such a great knife that needs just a bit more to be perfect.

My second knife is the Spec Bump. I guess since I didnt take the time to figure out the pocket clip, I was disappointed with the tip down carry only option. As well, the locking mechanism engages when you clip it to your pocket. This knife was purchase for a self-defense knife, so I tightened the locking screw so that it doesnt slide.

Is there an option for the Spec Bump to be carried tip up? Ive contemplated trying to do it myself, but the stock clip isnt the right shape...has anyone done this modification?

I havent been around much lately but I hope Thomas gives me his 0.02

My Kershaw wish list is much shorter and easier than yours, but similar in one respect: A steel upgrade. I can't count the number of times I've been this >< close to pulling the trigger on a Scallion or a Chive and took a pass because of their blade steels. Even AUS 8 would've done it for me. One of the Sandvik's they use on some of their other knives would've done it. If they'd had VG-10, 154CM or ATS-34, this would've been a done deal long ago.

I'm not holding my breath, tho. This has been brought up countless times. Apparently Kershaw has calculated the economics just aren't there. I assume they know their markets better than I. Truth be told, I'll probable buy a Scallion or Chive some day, anyway. Unless something very, very similar in size and operation, but with a better blade steel, comes along in the mean-time.

I really, really want to buy a Kershaw. Gotta love a company who's making their knives right here in the good ol' U.S. of A., I like most aspects of many of their designs, and I appreciate Thomas' presence here in BF. And the Chive, in particular, is a neat little knife.

I just bought a Blur with a s30v blade, black blade with grey/black handle. You can pick them off eBay for about 100. It didn't have a tanto blade, but still great metal.

If you want a great knife that you can put through its paces, but still looks good at the end of the day, pick up a Splinter. I've got one with the wood scales, and she is a beaut. AUS8 too.

J, Options are always difficult decisions internally, and obviously the right combination for you is not right for others. We try to be conscience of what blend of options makes the most sense, but don't always see it perfectly.

I would check with STR here on the forums, very well respected, honest, and can trick out a clip for your Bump no problem.

We have talked many times about a Bump with a flipper. Ken O wants to do one in the worst way. The change to a flipper would be a costly one, as we would have to make modifications and tool up for the alteration. I just don't see that happening soon.

I'll assume you're going to be around a little more often now?

I thought Kershaw was upgrading ALL the knives to 13C26 eventually?
Not all knives samhain73, just the models that currently have 440A blades. It will include the following models; Leeks, Blurs, Blackouts, Whirlwinds, Mini Mojito's, Baby Boa, Centofante/Onion, and I believe that is it. Someone correct me if there is more.

New(er) products that utilize 13C26 are: Groove, JYD's, E.T.'s, Need's Work, NRG's, Speed Bump, Cyclone's, and Storms. So as you can see, 13C26 has become our core steel.

I'll check on where we are at with our remaining stock with 440A and report back.

It is interesting you mention that EDC, as the Chive and Scallion will both continue in 420HC.
Economics are indeed behind this decision, and there is no arguing that both SKU's are very successful.

I am amazed that there has yet to be one Scallion or Chive done up in a more exotic piece of steel. We do get asked for a high end version of both of these patterns, but they just have never materialized. I'd like to see one myself, hopefully someday.

That's actually what I wondering (if a third party could order some special Chives and Scallions), and I'm surprised to hear it has yet to really happen!

It'd be a cool little knife with 154CM and Titanium... just imagine how light it would be though... you'd never know it was on your keychain :p

Wow, I'm excited. I love 13C26, and the 440A is what was stopping me from buying those knives. I see a lot of Kershaws in my future.

I would love to see a Blur sized version of the Mini Mojito with the same safety and studlock. I wouldn't mind seeing the same safety on some other knives (like the Leek, Bumps). Its great since it doesn't require any thought to use. Kinda like the grip safety on a 1911, it'll disengage if you are using it correctly.
The Mini Mojito is just a great knife that'll get even better when it switches to 13C26.

Thomas,

As always, prompt and helpful, one of the reasons I keep with my Kershaws. I cant say enough nice things about your company, so if my original post came across that way I apologize, I was in a bit of a rush. Im a business man myself (I work in the RC Plane industry) and I know you cant make everyone happy all the time and stay in business. I hear ya man.

We have talked many times about a Bump with a flipper.

Did you mean to say the Blur?

Thanks again,

J

Im a Monster XXL fan myself. :)

Get an S30V or Sandvick Tactical Blur with flipper and I swear I'll buy two :)

Thanks again.

Had a slightly different version of this in the Kershaw News thread. Seems like it might fit in a bit better here. Tweaked it a bit and made the flipper a little bigger (probably still needs to be bigger).

After having my Mini Cyclone in the TiZDP189 for a week now, I'd like to see a full size Cyclone in the TiZDP189...Thomas W, when they're available, let me know. I'll buy the first one!

And again, charge a few extra bucks and include the tool kit! a #6 Torx is hard to come by...but thanks to the Snap-On man, mines now carried tip up!

I just recieved a Kershaw Blur & Cyclone in the mail today. I've been handling them all day and have this to say as a my first impression. These are my very first Kershaw knives purchases.

The Blur-

I like the open design and it feels really light in the hand. My wife actually picked it up and enjoyed giving it a feel. I have large hands, she has small hands, and we both agree the ergonomics are pretty good. She liked the grip tape, I didnt. Spend the extra $ and get the G10 inlays.

An extra spacer at the butt of the handle woulda looked nice.

A steel sleeve insert for the lanyard hole would been cool.

I love the thumb pins. The design and postion make firing the assisted opening easy and simple. A flipper woulda been sweet.

The liner lock looks kinda puny.

And a on/off switch similar to the cyclones would have been kicka$$!

So far, I like the knife, but its not been put to work yet.

The Cyclone-

I love the on/off option. I can accept the switch placement (directly on top the back hump of the handle), but dislike the on/off lettering painted on the side. It looks kinda chessy, and maybe a simple x/o etched above and below on the spine would have worked better.

The auto assist is slow and sometimes can stop in midaction. But it smooth and easy to get open w/ one hand when the assist is off. It is a bit wide, and my wife was not willing to hold the knife, she didn't like the look or feel of it. I disagree, but can see her side.

I like the blade shape.

I like the flipper and thumb studs.

I dislike the puny liner lock.

Overall- This being my first purchase of Kershaw knives , I have to say [so far] their pretty good. Both knives weren't hair-popping sharp, but the blur snapped 550 cord pretty good. Easy one-handed opening/closing.

If they hold up to the test of time, I might be buying more knives from Kershaw. I just hope its not to good to be true. American made, agressively priced, nice features, what more can you ask for? We'll see...

just got a Needs Work last week...What a sweet blade. It fits my every day needs so well. I wish that I had found it earlier. Love the straight edge.

I would buy a bunch of Blurs in 20CV, or SPGS like Vassili talks about. I'd prefer the 20CV.

Thomas, anything planned for 20CV while it's still hot?

I chose the Blur due to my arthritis but several platforms would work good. Thank you, Joe
