I just got in the mail a new ZDP and Ti Leek and I was so excited for this knife ever since I got a Spydie ZDP Caly Jr. I finally found one, cost me a pretty penny and I opened the box, took a look and was immediately impressed with the feel and design of the handle and the overall look. I tried open it using the thumb stud and nothing happened I pressed hard and it just felt stuck, so I pressed the flipper and after some force it opened, slowloy, it didnt snap open with any real force like my blur though. The beautiful finish and grinding of the blade was very impressive it looked wickedly sharp and I wearily tested the edge (knowing how sharp zdp can get and how evily sharp my caly jr is) and found it dull as a spoon, I stroped it for a while on the back of a legal pad (all I had at the time) and I managed to get it so it most of the time wouldnt tear paper as I tried to cut it. (It wouldnt cut paper at all without tearing out of the box)

Anyone else have any issues with these knives? I will try some tough-glide tonight and see if that improves anything I am hoping it just needs some breaking in but I am kind of disapointed as of right now. This is such an amazing knife I just love the look and feel of it, I just wish the edge and action was better.

The action on mine was fine, but it was also very dull. I've worked on it some but I'm not getting it where it should be. That's probably my fault, but I do think it should have come sharp. I impressed my wife last night by shaving a portion of my arm with my Spyderco Military. That's what I was hoping for the Leek.

fit and finish on mine is exellent and sharp to boot. Opens faster than greased ******!

Thanks to Kershaw's superior service it is on its way back home for warenty work. They are so nice to deal with!! of all the kershaws I own this is the only problem I have had, and I even hesitate to call it a problem because they are egar to fix things, I only consider it a problem if it goes unresolved.

Mr. Thomas W. from Kershaw is typically around here reading threads like yours and he doesn't waste time or half step if he suspects there is a problem. The fast turnaround time has been typical of that company lately. I suspect you'll be happy with the new edge on the ZDP steel that you will get back. It's a great steel and a very nice knife. I bought two when they first came out and still have them both. Enjoy. Joe

Like The Mastiff said, you WILL get back a wicked sharp knife!! ZDP is great stuff, when it is sharpened properly!

I just got mine in the mail today. Mine too, is hard to open. Not extremely hard, but quite a bit harder then any of my other speed safe knives. The action is gritty, like there is metal dust in it or something. On top of that, the thumb notches are not ground evenly. And I think there is rust on the blade. Does ZDP even rust? I have no idea. I emailed Kershaw, I'm sure they will make it right, but man am I disappointed.

I haven a Chive that was hard to open. I played around with the pivot a bit, and found there was a magic spot where it was just loose enough to flip open smoothly but yet not to loose to create blade play. Maybe that will help?

You guys who have complaints on your ZDPLeeks made me paranoid so I had to go double check mine. Mine opens like my other two Leeks (walmart version and Random), very quick and smooth as ever and shaves my arm smooth as a babies butt.

I think you may have gotten one of the older ones that Kershaw had some issues with. They'll make it right.

my kershaw chive had problems with rust which i found unnacceptable. It got rust after one week in my pocket. I used militec and flitz to protect it and clean the rust off and it still got some on the blade a few weeks later. Never used the knife again and will not buy another kershaw. But i must admit its a fairly cheap knife but i was very dissapointed with the quality. Sticking with BM and spyderco=P

Thalestin, you are upset with our overall quality because the blade rusted?

rr, we will have your Leek back right quick.

Ive never had any of my knives rust so quickly. When I was a kid I had a buck that got rusted but that because I decided tyo clean it in salt water hehe. The kershaw i got was a cheaper folder, so I guess it can be expected. Im just a little sour because I payed good money for it at a local dealer which charged way to much money. It costed me 85 dollars if i remeber correctly--i see them sell regularily for around 30 dollars (I waws a bit of a knife noobie at the time and trusted the seller=P). In any case im sure that kershaws higher end knives are more to my liking. I do appreciate your concern and I am much more likely to buy another kershaw since I know you guys back up your product well. If my knife is defective thats alright, sending things from canada costs much to much money so I wont bother, rather spend that money towards a higher end folder. Again, i appreciate your concern and I take back my comment on not buying a kershaw again--best to keep my options open as I still am on the search for that perfect knife=D

I have an early model I bought NIB but second hand- blade is stamped July '06. It is fairly dull- I never used it and no sign of use is visible from the previous owner. Can I send it in, and if so, what do I put on the envelope? Thanks in advance.

Actually, I was considering swapping the blade with the S30V one (which is VERY sharp) I got from a recent deal for a polished G10 version. I actually prefer the S30V due to the proven track record, exelent OTB sharpness, and the fact that I can sharpen it myself with a little patience and a Sharpmaker (I've read that a sharpmaker won't touch ZDP unless you have special diamond hones whice I don't). I like the polished G10, but it's hard to beat a titanium framelock! I'm faced with a delema- do I try to swap the blades and then sell the G10/ZDP hybrid, get the ZDP sharpened and enjoy it for a while, or.... a proposal- would Kershaw sub out the ZDP blade for a new S30V one? I know the S30V must be less expensive, and they could recycle the ZDP into another knife. I wouldn't expect any monies to be exchanged. Just a thought-Thomas? PM me if you wish.

Sorry for a partial thread hijack...:).
Thanks,
Jon

UPDATE:

Got it back from Kershaw yesterday and it is perfect!! They did a great job on it! I am more than satisfied! I am a big Kershaw fan and my little experence here has just cemented that!
